I've just installed 8 tooth drivers on my Viper's drive axle.
The outside drivers are not as wide as the original, so the original collar location is slightly out from the outside edge of the driver.
i.e. (o = collar, @ = driver) ==o=@==@==@==@=o==
The original configuartion had the collars tight to the outside of the driver (same location, tight due to larger width driver).
i.e. ===o@==@==@==@o===
Is the purpose of the collars to locate the driveshaft, or to retain the drivers?
Should they remain in the same location, or should they be snugged up against the outside of the drivers?

they started using them in 99 or 2000, they had some shafts that the drivers would work their way outward and thus not actually drive under power. just slid them tight to the drivers and tighten.

i ran my 03 venture 700 151 with 8 tooths last winter without the collars. it only took about a month of riding until the outside drivers got pushed out and wasnt contacting the drive lugs anymore. my track would ratchet everytime i gave it to much gas or climbed a hill...this summer i put 2 collars from a 03 rx-1 mtn on and pounded the sprockets back in about a inch. i hope my problem is solved.
