I found this forum in searches to resolve a problem. So far I have liked what I see/read wanted to say HI to all and ask a questions.

97 VMAXsx 600 ...For the last 2 seasons I have been trying to figure out why the sled is getting so cold blooded. It used to be 2-3 pulls done no matter how cold it was. Now I could pull all day and nothing unless I use some good ole ether. :bash:

I have had the carb rebuilt and the fuel filter replaced. All the fuel lines look good. What else could be wrong? Once I get the sled running it runs great. As long as the engine is warm it starts with in a couple pulls. Once she gets cold I have to break out the starting fluid. Please :bash:

I am the orig owner and the sled is totally stock with 2300 miles I am at a loss and would appreciate any help

does this happen after storage only??? I used to have a 1994 Indy Trail Deluxe 500 and when it was stored for all summer, all the oil used to somehow get into the base of the motor, and then it wouldn't start. So we just drained the oil from those 2 small screws jn the base of th motor, put new gas in it, change the plugs in it and go on for the rest of winter, but I dont think ithis is your problem, but theres most likely somebody on TY here that can help you out.

I would check, compression.. Its possable that your fuel pump may be going bad ....have you check the hoses to and from your fuel pump??
Whne you pull it when its cold are you plugs wet?? If not yor not getting you fuel.... check the choke make sure you get full choke, and its working properly.. Also Jetting and fuel screw setting could be a factor.. are they at stock settings??

No unfortuatly not. I only have the problem when it is cold. I would say if it's colder than 15 .. 20'f I have the problem.
I will say the mech. I have had do all the work on it says it's normal. he charges me to keep it in a heated garage then calls me to say it starts just fine. We have gone back and forth with me bringing it to him in the AM and ask him to pull until it starts. I leave it with him he then puts it in the heated garage and calls it fixed.

Choke not working or bad stator/pickup? I would lean toward a choke problem make sure the choke is pulling out on the carbs when you flip the choke paddle on the dash.

Thank you everyone for your input. I have found some really good info on cleaning carbs and some simple modifications to improve performance. I think I will do away with the mech and try this all myself! wish me luck and thanks again
