electric start does not work

i just bought a 2001 sxr 700 with electric start and reverse and today when i went to start it up with the key is all it did was click so first i tried to pull start it and it fired rite up. then i went and got a new batt thinking it could be that and it sill wont start just clicks. the electric start was working when i got it.

clean all the electrical connections. starting with the battery terminal wire right on thru to the solinoid wires, most likly a bad connection in there somewhere, and \or a bad solinoid

i jumped out the 2 battery terminals ont the relay and it stated is it the relay then or could it be something else.
