Wishing for snow!
I'm not to sure if this is the right section or not, but meh!
Anyways, I'm thinking about purchasing a Vette. I've recently sold my mustangs. So Needless to say, I'm moving to the dark side (Chevy), lol. I was thinking about starting out with a 1998-2000. Nothing fancy, But Something to have some fun with. I did lots of drag racing my one of my Stangs.
I was wondering if anyone here other than tomseal has a Vette? What should I look for? Beware of? Anyone know a good Canadian Corvette forum?
Nik!

I got booted off their once for telling street racing stories but other than that its descent and has alot of vettes for sale. The site is much stricter than TY
I would go for a 2002 Coupe or ZO6 You should be able to pick up for 23K-25K

Yep, I had 2 black Z's In 2001 there was an oil usage problem in most Z's because of a ring flutter in the higher Rpm's. I would go through abouyt 1 to 1.5 quarts in 3000 miles. Seems like whenever the motor ate a full quart, the oil light would come on but it hold 6.5 quarts. I would add a quart and it would be right back on the full line. It was never an issue just adding a quart.
I bet you can find a nice coupe for that price range. In 97, in the debut of the C5 coupe, there was minimal options and the motor was only pushing 345 HP. There is also nothing wrong with a nice 96 C4 which is the last year of the C-4's
Have you checked into insurance yet? At 18 YO they are going to punish your wallet for owning one.

He told me he had that happen but I dont know the whole story behind it. I drove that car for less then 10,000 miles with no problems and sold it to him. Never took it to the track.

I've already looked into it. $400 a month. I'm paying more then that for my S-10. My stangs were costing me $700 a month. It's all good. I just realized it was time to get rid of the stangs, I could never have street driven one, The other was a drag car only. I had way to much money into them.

If you buy a nice 2000 or 2001 coupe for that price range, a good cam, set of ported LS6 heads, exhaust package, and a tune can get you around 475 HP at the wheels.
You can drive that every day and take it to the track

Ok guys, Thanks for all the help. I have decided to wait until my 20th b-day. This way I can invest (Not that cars are an investment) into a newer Z06.

What year ZO6 do you have in mind? The 06 ZO6 with 505 is marketing around 48K to 50K US$. I suspect in 2 years it will be very close to 40K. In 2 years, I bet you can pick up an 04 Z for around 22K to 25K

Get a sport bike, it is cheaper, faster, and more fun.
Yes, a bike is more dangerous than any car, but do a track day on a bike and it is the most unbelievable thing you can do.
I had a couple fox bodies myself, both were street driven. I loved those cars, but I sold both eventually, and still have my bike. go figure
That said, I have been looking to get a car that was fun to drive and quick enough as well. I still keep looking at e39 BMW 5series both the M5 and 540i 6 speeds. But both are only rwd, so winter would suck. So I drove an 04 subaru wrx wagon 5 spd. Now that was a fun car, and practical too. AWD, wagon, and fast. Sure, box stock it is not as fast or quick as a vette, but they can be made that way.
btw, insurance sux for a WRX though, so if you are 18, good luck. I am 33, and a homeowner, so I really don't think insurance rates on a wrx will bother me.

I've always wanted a STi. But I'd rather have V-8 Muscle! I would kill myself on a Bike, I know it!
Tom, April 2010 I will look into a 03-04 Vette It's got to be black on black, Or red on Black. I would really like a Z though. I've been blowing all my hard earned money into Stangs, and I'm sick of them and the people I hung around with.

You will find that the black on black Z06's are plentiful. I think they were made in 02. 02-04 Z's are just fine.98700 said:I've always wanted a STi. But I'd rather have V-8 Muscle! I would kill myself on a Bike, I know it!
