I've long traveled the front of a '97 with Viper shocks, and I'm putting a Polaris xtra-10 in the back.
If anyone else has long traveled the front and rear of a 97 SX, can you do me a huge favor and measure the height of the rear bumper from the ground? Most of you probably stuck with a Yamaha rear suspension, and that is fine, I just need the measurement. (I'm just trying something different).
Thanks for any help.

My 97sx long travelled (viper shocks) measures 20.5 inches from floor to center of bumper
Thanks very much. How does it ride compared to the Viper? How does it match up speed wise?
Viper still has a better ride but a large improvement from the short travel setup. Speed wise the Viper still wins.
Put a fixed Viper primary sheave on and adjusted the clutches properly. Pulls nice and hard out of the hole and on a good day will show 110 mph on the dream meter.
