Everything so often the headlight and tach stop working for about 20 seconds or so on my 98' SRX and then go back to normal. The engine runs fine, it just appears to be the headlight and tach. Did some searching on the older posts but didn't find anything with this exact issue but I'm thinking the most likely culprit is the wiring harness under the engine. I'm going to check it out tomorrow but thought I'd check and see if anyone has any thoughts on where else I should be looking if the harness under the engine checks out OK?
it will be rubbed thru, classic symptoms. Be sure to tape each seprately and plce harness back into plastic convolute tubing and the problem will never happen again.

Mine did this a lot when it was really cold out.It was a relay that was sticking.
the relays are on the 2000-02 srx only, not the 98-99
Awesome, thankyou very much!! I'll report back what I find tomorrow!!
its been covered here before, but unhook the harness up at hood hinge clutch cover front, tie a small string to it about 5 ft long to pull it back thru when done. Then undo the little bend over clamps under pipes(need small hands). TIP: its easier with airbox out. Then pull the harness backwards from over by the recoil, youll find the rubbed thru spots.

Checked out the wiring harness today and it was exactly as you had said! [The yellow wire was rubbed bare] It was really easy to do too, thanks to your instructions!! Very much appreciated, Thankyou!!

your more then welcome, glad you got it fixed, ride safe!!!!!
