Looking at buying goggles for this year and have been looking at either the 509 of scott turbo flows. Anyone have any experience with these or any other recommendations?

turbo flows are the tried and true i love the amp blue lens that typically comes with them; 509's seem to be hot this year...tried a set on at the snow show and they seemed really comfortable but i did not like the yellow/chrome lens that it came with....

Last year i wore smith googles and this year i'm using the 509's. So far i have not used the 509's. This year i got a new Fox V2 helmet and i find the 509's don't fit that tight to your face with the helmet on compared to the smith's but i need to try them out in the real world to give a good opinion.

Thanks. Good to know about the fit with the fox helmet. I just purchased one. I know the turbo flows fit very tightly in mine. Better stick with those.

I really like my Smith Fuel motorsport goggles. I ride only with an MX helmet since about 2000 on.
I have two pairs of Spy Blizzard goggles and like them.

I am going to give the 509's a try this year. They seem to have given them a lot of thought!

Have you guys found a good all around lens? I would like to only have to buy one set of goggles but am wondering what lens to get.

I like the orange tint myself, i bought a spare lens in blue tint so i'm going to be trying that this year.

I prefer yellow lenses myself. It blocks the glare during the day, and does not darken things up much at all at night.

i have a set of the 509 goggles and they are great, the real beauty about them is the ease of changing the lens. it literally takes about 15 seconds and they offer alot of different colors.

I prefer smiths myself. Good nightime lenses are light blue, like scott amp blue, or yellow. During the day anything with red in it cuts glare and gives contrast against snow. Persimmon(oakley), gold-lite and rose(smith), amp rose(scott), are great all around lenses.
I've been wanting to try a MX style helmet for a long time, but never really new how you guys set them up.Is there a type of balaclava that you guys would recomend that seems to keep all skin protected, also i noticed that some goggles come with a nose piece,do you like that setup better than the ones with out?
I use the HJC MX chrome helmet with Spy blizzard blue chrome goggles and the HJC breath box and the KLIM face mask. I never get cold.
Do the 509 goggles have any type of nose guard option like what Smith and Scott offer? I find this being very helpful for the cold midwest trail riding. I'm not sure if the mask/breath box of my HJC would seal out the cold if it weren't for the nose beak on my Smith Snow Warps.
I typically use a windproof mask, HJC AC-X2 Helmet, and SMith Snow Warps with nose guard.

The new 509 goggles are awesome!
I have only tried them on with my sixsixone and fly helmets and the fit is perfect! The made the foam thicker this year so they should fit a lot better and they are ALOT more comfortable! They also have a removeable nose piece and to be honest, I never was a fan of those things but now that I actually tried one, I love it and do not know how I rode without one. The other nice thing about the new foam and the nose piece, is that there is no exposed skin on either of the helmets I have. I do know that they do not fit well with Klim helmets however.

I ran a set of Scott Turbo Flow's for a few years and I switched over to a set of Scott 89Xi's last year and both sets are awesome! I have the Amp blue lens in the turbo flows and I had a set of the Amp Rose in the 89Xi's...I just ordered a set of the light sensitive transitioning lenses for the 89Xi's as ive heard good reviews on them!
Im also using a ONE Industries Kombat helmet

I have two sets of the 2008 509 goggles, they don't have a nosecone like the 2009 models do but I really like them. I wore them 2 or 3 times and decided to order another pair as a spare. Not that they've ever fogged on me or broke but I just like to have a spare set along, especially when I'm riding in the mountains. I wear a No-Fog baclava so I don't miss the nosecone that much.
I have tried on many pairs of goggles and these are the only ones I can truely say fit my face good. All the other pairs I have tried on do not fit the curve of my face, the outside of my eyes were always exposed, these goggles are curved more to cover that area.

I use a noseguard and neoprene partial face mask that attaches to the Smith goggles i have. I love that setup.
I simply wear a balaclava, and usually another neoprene face mask unless it is pretty warm. I have been using MX helmets while sledding for 8 years or so, maybe more. I like the field of vision better, and the goggles never fog up.
