:yam: I was going to rebuild my primary this year. I was wondering what i could do to it with out any special tools besides the rollers and spring. Also i was wondering about rollers. I need a 15.6 roller but was wondering if a 15 would work because a little cheaper and just shim the spring to replace rpms. I have a 97 600 xtc with about 4200 miles on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

put a 3.1 g in both holes, keep the stock rollers , w-s-w primary spring with a straight 47 or a 48/43....151.3 jetting with a .6 mm head gasket....worked awesome on my 600..xtc I had.

Just a follow up.

What if you can't do the work on the clutch. Rather than buying the tools to do it right is there a good place that can do the work?

I also have a '97 600 XTC with a virgin clutch on it. I had a hell of a time removing it. There appears to be some roller wear.

Any Yamaha shop can do the work...I really dont know where you are to tell you where to take it....I would do it for you if you leave near by Wausau, WI.

Hmm, I'd have to UPS it to you.

I don't really trust my nearest Yamaha Dealer. There should be one around but I don't know any good Yamaha Mechanics that are in tune with slightly older sleds.

I'll think about sending it to you. I'll be in Arizona next week so if it takes me a while to reply I'm sorry in advance.

Well I'll think about it. I almost bought a new clutch if the guy selling it would have come down another $100. Somewhere fresh to start from at least.

After a new belt and a few engine mods (after ring took out a cylinder) It is running great except that under WFO for more than 1/2 mile the max rpm's are 8300. I believe that is a bit high. With the old belt before the motor went south it spun as high as 8500. I'd like to have a general service done on the clutch. The Secondary looks great but the Primary may have a weak spring. A bit of wear/rust on the bushings and little or no weight on the arms. The sled does run good now but I would rather not break a rod with the over rev.

I'd like to get a new track when I can afford one so that might need to be considered on the clutch tuning. Something in the 1" area (If it fits on the XTC) that hooks up well with no studs. I don't know what gears I'm running but I would hazzard a guess that it is stock. I changed the gear lube after last season and it looked like that was the first time it was drained. Not much was done to my sled before I bought it.

I'll think about your gracious offer Mr. Sled. Maybe since the Novi Show is just 2 weeks away I'll see ya in person.

Chris

Just an FYI, if thats a 600 XTC that sled should only run 7800 rpm to be in its peak power, anything over that it looses power and thats when you nail it to the bar or holding it wide open....actually it should fall a few hundred short and pull to 7800.

Ya it's a 600 xtc and I have seen 84-8500. Sounds good but I know it is too fast. Currently it is 82-8300. I'd like to see a max of 8000 or slightly less I guess to keep it in the power band.

I think if you call Larry at North Country Yamaha (715-453-2626), he can set you up with the same thing that I would tell you. Its his kit that I ran in my 600 XTC....worked really well or I can tell you what he ran in it...you choose.
