I have some foam Uni pod filters I was thinking of putting on my '84 Phazer instead of the air box. Will I need to adjust the jetting? Is there anything else I'll need to adjust? Thanks.

Yes you would need to adjust jetting,I'd leave the box on,Yamaha did there
homework when they designed it...gains would be very minimal doing that.

In my experience you need to switch to flat/roundslide carbs to use the pods. The stock butterflys just don't work very well with pods filters. Keep the airbox with the butterflys. If you start modding it up and need the adjustability of the slede carbs, then make the switch and the pods work quite well.
The whole airbox vs pods on a mod subject has been beat to death, but I liked the pods on mine. When I was building my old phazer the guy that did the motor recommended them, and when I was asking some of the old yamaha guys(Hartman and a couple others) for jetting baselines, the first question they asked was if I had tossed the airbox and went to pods.
