My buddy just got done cleaning his carbs for the upcoming season. Set the fuel screws at the recomended 1.5 turns. Put it back together and idles good runs good also. The problem he said he has if he just hammers the trhottle from an idle it just bogs and dies sometime it will backfire and pop and die. If he brings the rpm's up first it will be alright. Could his fuel screws just need to be more than the 1.5 turn specs. I am going to go take a look at it this weekend. By the way it is a 97 sx 700

Definately make sure all is clean first, real easy to miss something. Did it do this before the cleaning? Did he check where his fuel screws were before he took them out or did he just look in the book and set them to 1.5? The reason I'm asking is, the very first time I cleaned my first set of carbs, I just took the screws out and reset them to book specs. The very same caracteristics of backfiring and bogging happened to me.It even blew my Bender can apart. Found out I had run my fuel screws at 1 3/4. Personally, I have messed with four simular sleds like mine and none will run at 1.5... Hope this might help, Soc

Make sure your not running last years fuel too. I added stabil at the end of last winter but my sled still didn't like the fuel as of last week after I cleaned my carbs. Same thing, idle to WOT bogs them pops. Fresh new fuel cured it. Maybe yours is the same.

Went over there today and took the carbs back off cleaned the pilots once more and blew out the passage. Turned screws out to 1 7/8 , replaced fuel and it runs better still has a slight bog from idle. Looks like his pipe was leaking going into the can. Told him to get that sealed up and try running it for a while . The sled hasn't been taken care of the best. Thanks for all the help. This sight is the best.
