I just bought a 97 vmax 600 xtc with 763 miles. I read on this forum that there are problems with piston rings and oil pumps? I called yamaha customer service.. gave them the serial number (I have other new yamaha stuff so I have a dialogue with them) and they told me a safety issue was not updated on this sled and to bring it back to the yamaha dealer. They would not acknowledge any piston ring or oil pump issues. I called the dealer and they didnt know anything about it but were going to check into it. Does anyone out there have a service bulliten number or something .....I would hate to have this sled blow a piston. I just paid top dollar for an 11 year old sled and will try and return it to the seller if this thing is a possible grenade. Why is all my yamaha equipt. so full of issues. I bought a 07 phazer with many issues thay had too correct. My sons 07 warrior has issues also.... I just sold my 01 GP800r wave runner this summer cause of wierd issues. Is this Yamaha typical? I was looking at a left over nytro but have read they have suspension issues and avoid it?....kindly advise......

in a nut shell........
no big deal,issues was piston ring pins(in the ring land)would fall out then
the ring would spin and catch the porting inside the cyl.,bang!!! '98 they
updated the pistons,so check on that and get new pistons then your set,
should have asked here first.
oil pump could fail in the full flow position and foul plugs,no big problem there new/used pump fixes that..
