they are new gaskets. i did this mod while i was doing the top end.
I have always had the same problems with only running one piece of the gasket. For a perfect seal that will last many years, mill the head flat the same thickness of takeing two pieces of the gasket away. This way you use the OEM gasket without any modification, positivly no antifreeze leakage. any machine shop can mill these heads, mine cost me $28.

You are supposed to be running 2 layers of gasket. You are supposed to remove the 1 middle layer and run the outer 2

yeah but others run just 1.

so you would have the head milled .010" then, if you want it to be like you are running 2 gaskets, even tho you are running stock oem gasket.

yeah, i think i still have a budddy at an engine machine shop . prolly get it done for free. i have a mill at work too. just not soue if i can hold it.
I had mine milled .020. I believe this is a much more reliable set up, especially if you have a one piece head.

I know some that mill .030 off the head and restore the squish band on the head....I think it is like what they do when you send your head in to have the combustion chamber "reconfigured".

i ran only one layer for 2 years when i was single piped and now I run 2 layers in now that I am tripple piped. I have removed my heads and reused the same gasket at least 7 to 8 times without any problems at all...be sure surfaces are clean, spray gasket with gasket spray, install and torque heads.
