KEEP IN MIND EVERYONE THESE NUMBERS ARE PERFECT WORLD MPH. ESPECIALLY YAMAHA. THEY HAVE GEARED THEIR SLEDS FOR THE MOON SINSE THE 440 SRX DAYS. IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT KIND OF RIDING YOU DO. ALSO KEEP IN MIND GEAR DOWN OR INCREASE GEAR RATIO MEANS BETTER ACCELRATION, BUT LESS TOP SPEED. HAVE TO FIND SWEET SPOT. 3:16 (yammie tony)

ok thanks again yamigod!!i think ill go with stock 01-02 gearing thanks!
Good catch Ding, you caught the rpm issue, and overdrive factor. Anytime you raise the rpm of the engine you raise the mph of the gear set, so a piped viper for example if engine rpm is raised a 1000rpm will be geared 10-11% higher with the same gear set of a lower rpm srx.
the driver size is usually calculated in circumference: (sprocket circumferance=SC)
8tooth=17.64
9 tooth=22.68
10 tooth=25.20
formula: RPM divided by (SC divided by 12 x 60 divided by 5280= your mph @ a 1:1 clutch ratio

ACTUALLY BUD 23-37 CALLS FOR A 68 ALSO. PROBLEY BE FINE, JUST KEEP EYE ON BEND WHERE TENSIONER IS. I ALWAYS LIKE LEAST BEND AS POSSIBLE. 3:16 (yammie tony)
Venture700, If you want to calculate 8 tooth drivers you simply multiply x 1.13 on your 9 tooth ratio.
your 18/39 would be 2.44 ratio with 8 tooth drivers.
your 18/39 would be 2.44 ratio with 8 tooth drivers.

In the Tech pages, Under stock Yamaha specs it says my 98 has 23-37 with 70 link chain. That's where I got the info from. Either way 68 here we come.
