I bought two 4"x 1/4" aluminum flats nine inches long for $18.00. I drilled a hole I think 1 1/2" up from the bottom of them for the skid to mount to. I angle cut the two bottom corners to make it look better. I figured out the geometry by takin a 5" strip of 3/4 inch plywood I kicking around and holding it up inside the tunnel behind the original skid holes and drilled holes. I then put a bolt and nut through the front hole. for the back I took that half moon washer with the little lip on it that was on the outside of the tunnel used for the back bolt of the skid. I took and bolted it on one side of the drop bracket and the plywood on the other side. I made sure the half moon washer was square to the drop bracket and snugged it up. I then took and pivoted it up so the lip on the half moon washer was up against the coolers under the running boards. That is how I set my drop bracket and it came out to a 2 5/8" drop from the original if I remember right. I bolted the drop brackets to the reinforcing angle in the top corner inside the tunnel and to the support bracket for the coolers at the bottom of the tunnel with 4 1/4" bolts. After I mounted the first side, I double checked the positioning of the next side by measuring from the back of the tunnel just to double check incase there was some play or shifting of the plywood template. When I had the back drop brackets mounted, I put the strip of plywood back on and drilled a hole for the center skid mount.
Snowdad4 really helped me with info about doing this and when I was done my buddies thought it looked great. Hope this helps. Good luck.

If you use aluminum, I would be sure to use 7075. I used 6061 and structurally it is fine, but the bolt holes egg out easy. You will find that 7075 in the size you need is not cheap, so $50 for a used set in good shape is a very good price.

I used www.onlinemetals.com to get a bunch of material because for what I was doing none of the brackets available would work.

Here are the ones I built last year. stainless steel. I ended up not using the bottom hole and cut it down some. Do what Sasksxr said about a template for proper hole placement.

this is what i started with ,1997 v max 600 xtc , i put a tracks usa 121- 136 kit on and for drop brackets i have all the pieces that i needed from a 1997 yamaha mountain max 600 and the brackets give about 1.50 drop . and i lowered the middle hole about 3/4 and left the front alone. i also loosened the limiter straps up all the way . when i was done the front of the skid sits about 1.75 off the ground in the front . so found this thread and seen the information that sasksrx and others left and did what sasksrx said to do for proper hole placement and made a template .i put my mountain max drop brackets back on in the holes i had already made and bolted in the front of the template and all holes lined up . skid doesnt sit flat it sits 1.75 off ground in front .

I wonder if it has something to do with you having a long travel front suspension and I don't. I put an xtc suspension in a couple years ago and the back end of my skid was in the air. I had to suck up my limiter straps to get it to sit half fast level. So when I put the 141 extensions on, I put the drop brackets in thinking it would help level it out as well as get more clearance, which is what happened. Talk to the guys with the long travel front suspension sleds who put drop brackets on and see if they had the same problem. I'd kind of like to know about this too, I was planning on long travelling my front suspension, but if this is a problem that comes up, I might skip it. With the skid like that it is going to suck trying to turn. Also, my tracks usa extensions actually tipped up towards the back when they were bolted on. That would help keep wieght off the very end of the extensions. I'm sure yours would be the same but if they aren't, that would make the problem worse also.
