v max4 carb issues? HELP!!

bought a 1995 v-max4 800 last year. sled sat for 4years. drained all gas pulled carb rack, cleaned all 4 carbs, replaced all fuel,vent and overfull lines. fresh gas,sparkplugs even put in sea-foam treatment for extra measure.starts up after several pulls. seems to idle fine but mid range has bad hessitation,bog as if its starving for fuel. if I play with throttle i can get it to come back and it seems like top range is ok,it wants to go like hell!! any sugestions on were to start??? compression is fine across all 4.only modification is the clutch. thanks to all,pete
 
Could be a clutching issue vs. carbs. If the carbs are clean, I would look at the clutch setups. Have you compared the way this sled runs to other Vmax4's? These sleds do like a lot of throttle I've found on the 4 that I have had over the years.

The sled sat for 4 years? I would check the exhaust to see if a critter crawled up there. Its been posted on here before where mice make a nice home in the exhaust over the summers.

Did you put everything back together correctly on the carbs?
 
make sure choke cable is adjusted properly and that the choke rod on the carb rails are closing totally . push it closed with your finger.it might be hanging up a little(not closing fully)

thanks for all the responses,I have a 94 v max 4 that is my main ride. it runs awsome!! the 95 800 i picked up last year not running. cleaned all carbs no parts left over(doesnt mean i put together wright. that could be a possibility. never checked the size of jets. just assumed they were stock(me bad) checked on a sled lift. no pressure on track.starts ok(2/3 pulls) idles fine runs good at low range , bogs/sputters mid wants to die then it goes like hell!! . guy at yamaha dealer(mechanic) said to try lowering clip on needle. i dont think its the clutch but i could be wrong!! again thank you all!!yamigod were is the best place to buy clutsh parts for my 94 yami god upgrade!!!!thanks,peter
 
PETE,PROBLEM IS THIS WILL BE EVEN WORSE UNDER LOAD. IF ITS DOING THIS ON A STAND, ANYWAYS WHEN YA TEST THIS SLED THE WAY YOU EXPLAIN, WHEN IT STARTS PUKING YOU NOTICEING ALOT OF SMOKE ? CHANGEING NEEEDLE POSITION WILL HELP LIKE THE DEALERSHIP SAID BUT YOUR RUNNING ON THE MAIN JET AT THAT POINT, UNLESS LIKE SOMEBODY UP ABOVE SUGGESTED SOMETHING WAS PUT BACK WRONG. NOW YOU RUNNING MY 750 CLUTCH SET-UP ? WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING TO UPGRADE TOO. STILL WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT MAINS ARE IN THIS 800. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Yamigod,I want to run your 750 setup in my 94 .this sled runs great just want to have more pep!! from what i read your setup is the ticket and makes a big differnce.my 94 has a2003 rx-1 skid i installed 2 years ago what a differnce that made!!the 1995 800 is pretty much stock besides clutch kit(what i dont know) and studs. I guess i will tear the carbs apart again(god help me) check jets( what is the standard jet size for the 800???)again thanks to all!!! pete
 
PROBLEM SHURE SOUNDS LIKE CARBERATION, I WOULD START WITH CARBS, WHEN YA GET THEM OFF I WILL WALK YA THROUGH THEM IF YA NEED HELP. STOCK 95 VMAX 800 CAME WITH 141.3 MAINS.THAT 750 CLUTCH SET-UP REALLY WORKS NICE. ONLY PROBLEM WAS SMALL HELIX SELECTION FOR THOSE SECONDARYS. FORCES YA TO GET THAM FROM HAUCK 3:16 (yammie tony)

yamigod, pulled the carb rack off and checked the mains they say 142.5 ?? thats not even in the 95 800 carb parts list. is this ok???all 4 are the same thanks again pete
 
PETE, YOU CAN DROP TO 141.3 ONLY BECAUSE THATS STOCK 800 JETTING, NOW IS THIS ENOUGH OF A CHANGE TO CURE YOUR PROBLEM. I WOULD SAY NO. YOU STILL PROBLEY HAVE A ISSUE THERE. 3:16 (yammie tony)
 
WERE YOU ABLE TO CHANGE NEEDLE POSITION.
POOR PERFORMANCE @ MID RANGE SPEEDS. SLOW TO RESPOND TO THROTTLE. THIS IS CAUSED BY A LEAN MIXTURE. AGAIN CHECK YOUR PILOT JETS TO SEE IF CLOGGED OR LOOSE. CLEAN AND RETIGHTEN. ALSO REMOVE AND CLEAN OUT WITH COMPRESSED AIR. PETE, TOOK THIS OUT OF MY VMAX 750-800 SERVICE MANUAL. 3:16 (yammie tony)

cleaned jets and carbs(looked great), still have it apart.how do i change the needle positon?? also i think i have a bigger problem. removed the reeds to look at pistons #1&2 look great(clutch side)#3 little scuffed can see it but cant feel it#4 scuffed can feel it not deep but a liittle ruff!! time to part out??? I do not want to spend a ton of money on this sled. compression was like 122# across the board. I hate to say it but thinking about selling both of my max 4s and getting a 4 stroke(GOD help me again)thanks,pete
