83 Vmax 540 Track not fitting

I picked up a brand new camoplast durasport 725 track for a vmax 540 but i installed it all and it's really close if not touching the heat exchanger on the one side. Is there anything i can do to get the clearance between the track and exchanger. Is the upper center shaft that runs between the tunnel really necessary?

Yes the center support shaft is necessary.
But, I have lowered mine on a couple of my V-Maxes that I run studs on.
Just make sure you drill the new hole in a solid part of the reinforcement plate.
Not to close to the edge.
After you lower the shaft you probably will have to adjust the sag in your track.
