Wierd idle...

When i start my sled the idle goes way up to just below engagement then down to 2200 and stays there, if i hit the choke it will go to 1800-1900 and stay there until i hit the throttle, then it will float by itself up to 3000 and then slowly come down to 2200... throttle cable is not too tight...

Note, i have one powervalve out of the sled, just bolted the housing back up to the block (puttin the new one in this weekend) and i have 5 gallons of AVgas (aviation fuel)100 octane in there.

could one of those things be causing the wierd idle?

it was around 30 degrees + or - a few degrees.

Thanks!

Joe

100 octane will not hurt anything in my sled. I'm looking for a hotter burn on the first tank of the season...

Tom, so the powervalve being out is the problem? i don't see what that would be a no no to do if i had to get it from point a to point b real quick

Then why would you come hear asking if that would cause your idle problem????? Your sled is going to be running pig rich with higher octane unless you re-jetted(leaned) for the higher octane(did you????), so why would you think that would make your engine run hotter????You wanna run hotter throw some regular gas in there and watch your pistons melt away.

I dont know anyone that would run a PVed engine without all the PV's being installed. Did you expect the engine not to be affected without having 1 PV in it? If the PV didnt serve a purpose in the engine running efficently Yamaha wouldnt have used them.

Ive read alot of you past threads regarding race/octane and alot of people have covered that your not going to gain anything running race gas in a stock sled......All I have to add run Premium and leave it ALONE!!!!!!!!

Yea man, stick your power valves in and get them all set up before you start worrying about the idle. Race gas actually burns slower than regular so your sleds not going to run hotter with the race gas in, probably cooler. Just drop 93 in, thats all you need, thats what the engines built for. If your running high compression or advanced timing or something thats when the race gas is needed. Where the hell did you find aviation fuel anyway??....lol

put the new pv back in and all is good, guess the dead space in there was causing it... Don't know about you guys but there is a sticker on the sled that says minimum pump ocatane- 91/ minimum research octane 97.... not sure what that means.

Thanks for basically telling me i'm a dumbass.

OZ,I found the aviation fuel... you'll never guess! at an AIRPORT! no way!

Ooops i for got this was on your SRX, yea you want better octane but not
that high lol, good to hear it's resolved and running right, thats what the forums are for to ask if you don;t know.

Well i guess i know where i'll be getting my race fuel from now on, But, is it the good stuff or the crappy stuff thats all "watered" down with octane boosters and ethanol and such to lift the octane rating?

its a Strait up 100 octane fuel specifically for Prop planes. But its good enough to use in a high performance engine too. figure i'll give it a try, and if i don't gain anything then its not a huge deal. Just like tellin people i got avgas in there. the people out there who think higher octane really has a good effect on performance.... but in reality, who knows.

I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THAT AIRPORTS ARE GOING TO USE CRAPPY GAS ON AN AIRPLANE,OBVIOUSLY YOU WOULD NOT WANT A PLANE TO RUN ON CRAP GAS. KINDA SEEMS LIKE COMMON SENSE TO ME. YOUR UP IN THE AIR, WAY UP DONT THINK THEY WOULD RISK ENGINE PROBLEMS BY SELLING OR BUYING CRAP GAS. COMMON SENSE???????? SOME PEOPLE JUST DONT HAVE ANY.

Yamadude, I think the idea behind higher octane, is that it allows you to mod a motor with less fear of it burning down. The higher octane will burn cooler and resist detonation in a motor with higher compression advanced timing and leaner jetting.
The High octane does not create HP, but helps the motor survive the higher HP.

Glad you got it worked out and sorry if you got flamed so quickly.(but you have to admit, its kind of a crazy question considering your senario :o| ) lol

crazykid, take it to HardCoresledder, :bash: this isnt the place for it!

I'm not saying its crap in the sense your taking it, alot of high octane gas out of the puimps have a lot of ethanol and stuff in it to acheive this higher octane rating, its still 110 octane or whatever its just everyone knows that ethanol is not the best thing in gas more multiple reasons. the "good" stuff still has lead and such in it, I bieleve, which makes it a better fuel, no ethanol. Im not sure what the FAA's or EPA's view is on airplanes spewing lead cause we all know its not allowed in street vehicles.

the race gas that is sold at some gas stations is all legit... Race gas is just that, race gas, used in high performance modded motors, they wouldn't stick crap gas in it.... just ask Valin... that guy knows where the good stuff is and uses it in the sweet 1136 srx. heavily modded of course so its generally smart to use higher octane.

Yes, Avgas has high amounts of lead in it, and smells damn good when its running.

What does that sticker mean on the sled?? minimum research octane-97??? anyone else got the sticker on the right hand side above the hood latch? on a 01 srx

yep i got the same sticker on my '01...

Yea daman what does it mean???? lol thanks! they got two minimums on there... one for pump gas and the other research.... i'm lost... are they saying your safe to use anywhere from 91 to 100 octane?
