hey guys what kind of advice can you give a guy that has a 108exp or c (not sure, dont think it matters) on a 81 srx.... what should the 81 srx engage at? what spring should he use? and what weights?

TYLER, I NEVER USED A 108 ON MINE. ONLY 102. I THINK ALL THE WAY BACK, THEY CAME WITH THE YELLOW SPRING AND B WEIGHTS. ENGAGEMENT WAS AROUND 4200. I THAN CHANGED TO THE PURPLE SPRING WITH TWO SHIMS, THAT BROUGHT IT UP ALOT. I THINK MID 5 ,s WITH '' C '' WEIGHTS. THOSE SLEDS REALLY LIKE HIGH ENGAGEMENT. VERY PEAKY HIGH RPM MOTOR. 3:16 (yammie tony)

yeah thats what i understand im just asking for a guy that was on our website.... 108's are for the devil as far as im concerned... i dont think ive ever really seen where someone said "this works good"....

now mind you chuck is running a 108exp on his 86vmax with a machined secondary and it runs good, but thats also not a 81 srx

your thinking the 81 needs to engage over 5000?

thanks

WELL WHEN YAMAHA UPDATED THE SRX WITH THOSE CLUTCHES BACK IN 81 THEY CALL THAT THE 81 SRX 440 E TRAIL PERFORMANCE KIT. I THINK ENGAGEMENT WAS 4200. BUT THEY CAME OUT WITH AFEW SPRING UPDATES TO UP ENGAGEMENT. I LIKE TO SEE YA ATLEAST 5000. 3:16 (yammie tony)

hmmm i never knew that... that must be why mine had one on it....

did they also update the secondary? or else how could the belt drop low enough in the secondary to get up in the primary?

from what i have heard and seen, you have to machine the "snap ring area" of the secondary to allow it to open further and thus allow the belt to get up to the top of the primary

well if it is a 1981 comet recomends N-1 weights...which are 45.5 gr part # 209642 and a purple spring part # 207888 Hope this helps
