Hi everyone,
I am new to this site and I have a question.

I have a 98 Yamaha Vmax 600. It keeps fouling out the sparks plugs. When they are taken are wet. I believe gas & oil. I am thinking about taking this sled in and I am wondering if this could be a simple problem that I could have someone fix without taking it to a shop.

Thanks for your help.
I am also female so if you tell me to rebuild the carp I will have no clue lol.

Hi Tina and welcome to the site.
Fouled plugs can be a few different problems....one easy check is to make sure you are using the proper plug for that sled.
Are all plugs fouling or the same plug?

:wel: to TY..

are you using fresh gas????,did you just pull this sled out for the winter when this happend,or did it just start doing this???

getting the carbs off and a good cleaning would help.

my old '98 v-max 600 xtc, had gotten rich on me. i took the airbox off to clean the carbs, and found a whole bunch of belt dust in the venturi of the carb. i was blocking off the air jets, so it was making the sled run richer. maybe you are experiencing some of this? also, like asked already, what plugs are you trying to use? are they gapped correctly? how old is the gas? is the oil pump set correctly? when i had this sled, it was supper reliable for me. my dad still has it now (i sold it to him years ago) and still no issues w/the sled. you should have good luck w/yours, as they are reliable machines.

fouled

Hi,

I had the same issue and it was due to too much oil. How do I adjust that? I do not have a manual yet.

Any help.

hi Dave and wecome to the site, is this issue on your '95???

just a thought but a buddy has a 500 and just a bit of powder would melt under hood on the plugs and cause them to foul ....if he sprayed wd 40 on them it would get him through the day ....i belive he replaced the caps or the wires and solved the problem ......just a thought

Is it fouling them out when you first start it or after its been running for awhile?

Hi guys,
thanks for the replies.

Here is the scoop. About three years ago it would do it once or twice a season. I didnt get to sled last year but the year before I was going threw 4 or 5 sets a weekend. It is not when I first pull it out for a season. I was told that there is a needle that lets the oil in. The Vmax is known for that needle getting shaved down so its not a point any longer and lets to much oil in the gas and that fouls the plugs. I dont know if that makes sense or not. I guess I am going to have to take it in.
I let you know what I come up with. t

Try some NGK Iridium plugs..

They worked well for me and have used the same plugs for 3 seasons.

I am huge fan of iridium plugs, but if his 98 600 is like my 97 600, then it is dumping so much oil in that not even iridiums wouldbe able to keep from fouling.

Mine is in the shop now. It sounds like yamaha will probably cover the pump ($140), but not the labor. We shall see.....

my sled used to do that to. try instead of letting your sled warm up for 5 minutes try letting it warm up for 3o to 60 seconds and then hopping on it and driving it easy for 5 min.

I have a 97 vmax 600xtc. I just baought it. After about the third ride. It started too stumble, especially at slow speeds. I changed the plugs and it was better, then it started again. Only put 100 km on it.
I pulled the plugs and they are dark, and have oil on them....does this make sense. Am I also haveing the same thing.
How do you adjust the oil injection.
thanks mike.
Sorry didnt meen to jump in on yourpost, but seems like the same problem.
