Enyone know an easy way to reintall proaction suspension in a viper ?,having trouble lining up middle shaft i have been trying for about three hours by myself and cant get the centre shaft lined up . :dunno:

Or get a few buddies to help. when i reinstalled mine, i had two buddies and it helped tremendously, when two hands are not enough....

Good Luck!

I feel your pain!!! I tried to do mine by myself. Just loosen the bolt at the bottom of the transfer rod and it will slide in easy as pie.

i found using a big turnbuckle bought from the hardware store helps with all brands.i attach it to something anchored in the skid and the other end to the shaft thats giving me grief and tighten it till it aligns.works pretty good for me.this is just to get the last couple in .also i put big open hooks in the turn buckle instead of the closed loops it came with.

Should i start from the middle than the front it would seem a lot easier to put that middle shaft in first i dont know just frustrated i tried everything i even took the bolts right out of thr transrer rods did not help at all im almost there but not quite enough very difficult working from your back i only have a small baby barn and not much room to work will try again this evening will give that turn buckle idea a try, would like to do it myself because i do all my own repairs just like doing that stuff it gets me out of the house anyway thank for all the advice will keep you posted.

I had the same problem and used a come-along. I did the same thing Hanker did and it helps with the last couple of inches. Good luck

Are you sure everything is in right? I seem to remember when I had problems doing mine somebody wrote about the the rear shock bracket being flipped forward and how that was an easy mistake to make and this made it impossible to install. I too have the same space constraints you do and fought with mine for 2 nights!! once I was told about the bolt at the bottom of the transfer rods it became soooooo easy, it slid right in with no resistence at all. install front 2 bolts first then the middle and finish with the rears. Good Luck

If you have to do it by yourself, and you have the front and rear bolts in with the control rod bolts loosened . . .
  • Simply roll the sled on it's left side.
  • Pull what would be downward and forward (if the sled was upright) on the rear axle with your knee and give the center shaft a shove with your right hand or a 2 x 4.
  • It should easily go into place. If it binds then ensure that the shaft ends are not caught on the tunnel edges.
  • Adjust up and down hole alignment by pushing or pulling on the center shaft.
  • Adjust forward or backward hole alignment by changing pressure on the axle.
The extra gap that you get when you loosen the control rod bolts is only useful if you cause the bolts to go up into the bottom sleeve of the control rod. The easiest way I have ever seen to accomplish this is to push down on the axle. Thanks Jerry for this tip several years back in Muni.

Please, someone give this a try and report back on how simple it makes this install.

I always start with the front bolts and work my way back - you shouldn't need a come along and an extra hand is very helpful if you can spare a beer or two!! ;)!

I have done this many times by myself and it should only take a few minutes to get it installed. My steps were.

1. elevate the rear of the sled with a come along
2. get the skid under the sled
3. install the front two bolts
4. install the rear two bolts
5. disconnect the transfer rods if you desire
6. elevate the rear of the sled and the center bolts should almost align themselves.
7. reinstall the transfer rods
8. tension and align the track

This is how I have done mine in the past and it went well. It is a learning experiance though and experience is the best tool. Good luck.

I had the suspension out of the sled the only thing i did was take the shocks out to test them did not touch the brackets the brackets stayed on the suspension,i also removed the transfer rod bolts during installation but did not seem to help but have a freind of mine comming over tonight to give me a hand maybee four hand s will be better than one lol,if that does not work will take suspension out to see if i installed something wrong. :letitsnow

Well guys finally got the suspension in tonight had a freind come over and give me a hand and had the suspension in in no time at all just have to clean her up clean the power valves and carbs and should be ready for the snow ,just want to thank everyone for their input this is an awsome site with a lot of knowledgable people always a great place to get advice and help.
