Hey all, Happy Thanksgiving!- see some of you have snow. Hey quick question for someone. A 2000 SRX 700, Vt elevation of 650-800' average. Have stock jetting 1=145, 2/3=143.8, 3rd position on clip for needle, fuel screw out 1 1/2 turns. Ran compression check today on cold motor, 125 accross the board and held for a few minutes. Sled has not run this season yet, did power valves and have carbs out now. Just wondering, plugs are showing dark after a few weeks, start out nice brown color for first couple of days then get almost black, maybe a little wet. Sound as if i need to stay in a bit on fuel screws maybe? Or change jetting for altitude, two different dealers in Vt didn't seem as if they could steer me in right direction. Say to buy and try different jets, but as you all know, not what you want to hear. Am not afraid to pull carbs couple of times, just bleeding out air and restarting is not much fun. Just wonder if someone has a good base to start at for this elevation. Thanks in advance to all- al

2000 srx stock jetting is 147.5, 146.3,146.3. What were the tempertures on the days that it looked good verses the days it looked bad? Were you looking at these after a WOT pass or after a ride around the trails.

jetting?
My mistake on jet sizes, had to get out a magnifying glass to see them. Your statement on stock sizes is actually what they are. Temperatures were about 20 f on the money the 3 weeks i was up there in Vt. Pulled plugs after a couple of good corn field runs, looked a nice medium brown. After a run on the trails the plugs would load-up and turn blackish and a bit wet, speed limit is a factor when on trails in Vt, which is fine, for safety and respect of the property owners. Just can't get it started easily next day, as plugs are not dry and good looking, don't get me wrong, plugs are not "wet", just not dry looking. Want to adjust power valves this wknd, will have to read all posts on that, as there are definetly differing opinions on here. Thanks, al

i would try the fuel screws @ 1-1/4 turns out versus the 1-1/2 turns out you currently have. stock fuel screw setting is 1-1/8 turns out. i have seen stock '00 srx's have a idle that would take a little bit to calm down. did yours have that problem, and that's why its got the fuel screws out to 1-1/2? you were saying that speed is a limit factor on your trails, which would probably tell me that your running on the pilot and needle circuits 70% of the time. try the fuel screws @ 1-1/4...should be enough to calm down the high idle, if you have that problem.

Still at it
Carbs are back in, power valves are clean- and awaiting adjustment. Did not see any major probs with carbs, junk in bowl, wasn't there last year as i did a complete carb cleaning and adjustment. Put in a fuel shut-off valve, trailer a bit so try to avoid x-tra gas in motor. I think i will pull out all old oil and start with something new. Had some type of yamalube from previous owner. Pulled pipes to clean and paint, also will help to do double checking when adjusting valves. Did not find any thing out of the norm, maybe just crummy oil and a need for my buddy to play with the choke/throttle lever. Oil is a big debate here it seems, syn vs mineral. Will have to do some more reading on that. Thanks to all, enjoy the season, al

Elevation-
Hey yammie- That was what i had gotton off of a couple different searches for the Rutland/Castleton VT area. I live on the coast of CT, sea level here is about 16'. No more than about 15 miles of trails here in Ct, so register and ride at friends B+B in Castleton, and will see some friends in Island Pond VT also this year. Hope to have it all together on sun, still at it now, in heated shop that is not mine, has to be out for start of work on mon. Took my time last year, read a whole bunch here, made decisions and went with that. Am taking time again this year, redid rear suspension last month, just need to dial in valves, and put it all back together again. No snow here yet, prob won't be any again this year here, so test runs are really tough. thanks, al

tony, i think you meant to say lean? he's only 650 to 800 feet above sea level, so he would be lean on the mains. i think you thought he said 6500-8000 feet....right? he should be running 147.5 in pto cyl, and 146.3 in center/mag cyl for his 800 feet elevation.

he says in his first post that he has stock jetting, but 145 pto and 143.8 aren't stock '00 srx jets.......147.5pto and 146.3 center/mag is stock '00 srx jets. i talked to him and he was going off the sx-r specs.....ooops. so, he posted the wrong specs. he now has the factory '00 srx jetting in it. we'll have to see how this thing works out for him now. yammiegod, you got any snow by you?

jetting-
Yes my mistake- was looking at wrong row of specs in tech section. Know that they are stock as confirmed all last year at carb rebuilding/cleaning time. Only thing changing this year is 1 1/8 out on fuel screws, last year ran 1 1/4 out settings. did not have idle hang probs, that was suggested on here to avoid a potential probs. Run at 650-800' elevations in mid to upper VT state. Got pipes and can back in now, had all off to check p/v settings, will have to run to do final check. Thanks to all, al
