GREAT SLED. YAMAHA ONLY MADE THE EXCITER SX IN 1993. THEY WERE 93 hp AND ALOT FASTER THAN THE PLAIN EXCITERS OF THAT ERA. GREAT SLED. I HOPE TO BUY ONE OFF A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE THIS SPRING. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I would buy it without hesitation! I bought mine a little more than a year ago now with 1,400 original miles. Just got it back from CB Performance after a few upgrades (PSI pipe-new old stock from ebay; new all-plastic skis, new ripsaw track and studs). I am dying to ride this thing!
I heard nothing but great things about them-that is why I picked it up (speed, weight, handling).

Loved that sled that SOB would go around a corner, buy it, see if you can find a Bender HD sway bar, put a late secondary on it and ride it.
like yammiegod posted only made this model 1 year,if it is in good condition it is a good investment. exciters are awesome and this was the best year. highest hp, wider front end, better clutches, flatslide carbs and cool graphics!bought 1 myself this year. cant wait to ride it!

any idea what those sleds weigh?i had a sweet phazer 2 clutched, ported and piped, and wondered if these exciters felt the same just faster?

I had one, loved it. They do feel heavier than a Phazer, but more stable/corner better because of the wider front end. That sled surprised many people with the top end that it had. Make sure to check the heat exchanger underneath that sits in the center, right in front of the track. Very notorious for these being ripped off. I actually removed mine and coupled the hoses together, never had over-heating issues.
To answer your question about the Phazer vs '93 Exciter sx:
My cousin had a '91 Phazer 11, Aaen pipe, comet clutch, flat-slides, port & polish. My Exciter would pull him off the line hard about three lengths, he would then stay three lengths back until we got around 60-65, I would then start pulling away from him hard to top end. Top end on Exciter was quite a bit more than his Phazer. This was both with 3/4 aggressor track. He then put on a 1-3/16th track. He could then pull me off the line about two lengths until 60-65, at which point I would reel him in and then pass him. I always figured if I had put on a 1-3/16th track and set up the gearing and clutch for it, would have been a very nice gain. It would lose some top end, but would pull harder through bottom and mid.

I love mine, have fun and take care of it.
Raced buddies 99 Phazer 500 with 136", 1.25" track, bored motor (don't know size), V-force 3 reeds, Bender pipe, plastic ski's. I took him off the line by about 2 lengths and held it the whole way. My track was studded and at about .75" lug left. We raced over a mile on snow covered ice and he couldn't catch up. This year he got a 97 Ski-doo MXZ 670 HO with some mild work done so I'll see how the SX will hold up this weekend, if the snow comes like it's supposed too.
