I have a 97 700sx that I bought used.

It revs to almost 5000rpm before the clutch engages and comes in very harsh.

I checked the spring and replaced white, silver ,white and we have the same result.

Any ideas as to what in can be?

What weights? Are they notched?

A W-S-W has a 35KG preload, And that a super high ENG for that number.

^^ Beat me to it

not too high, stock srx spring is 45kg preload.

no the engagement RPM is too high for such a low preload.

Look for the notch at the start of the ramp.

Check to make sure it,s not a tall cover style primary spring. The coulour dots on the spring should run up & down not side to side on the same level. Check to make sure all bushings are tight with no side to side movement.

How many miles on sled? Might want to check the cover bushing. Mine has begun to show signs of sticking during backshift.

I will have a look at both of the springs.

I did notice the weight it not super tight on the bushing. It will rock from side to side. They are about 12,000km on the sled.

If you spin the track with the rear of the machine raised, then let off and let it return to idle, try to observe and listen to the primary, does it return smoothly or does it "hesitate" then "bang/click" out to its final position?

sounds like a belt blew off at one time remove front clutch and service belt pieces stuck around spider would cause this regardless clutch should come off
