Just wondering if anyone has worked on a viper water pump. I noticed a small leak at the bottom of the water pump. Can I just replace the seals and does it come apart easily with disturbing any gear drives or bearings?
Thx

Daman, link just said --no matches found--? I was wondering the same question as my sled is all apart right now and noticed a drip of anti-freeze coming off the bottom of the pump housing...

Hmmm it did work, anyway if you want more info click on search in the upper
right and type in "water pump seal" should bring up posts with members
haveing WP problems...

This was a warranty item on 2002 Vipers. You might ask your dealer about it.

Thanks for the info guys.... after reading the 647 threads on it I'm really hoping that the drip was from spillage while disassembly. Thought it might just be an outside gasket, and an easy fix, but not the case. I never had any real leakage before, so I think I'll skip it-- till I know it's broke!

Viper water pumps!

I have an 03 and once in awhile I get coolant come out of the weap hole on the top of the pump. The amount varies, but it isn't a steady leak. Dealer told me it is a way for the system to bleed air. Anyway's, mine has been like this since new and it has never leaked a great amount. Just top up the coolant bottle when low and you will be good to go.

Good to know, I will keep an eye on it. Where did all the snow go? We had lots when I started working on it...now it's ready to go and we had a major thaw...what up?

I know i thought the same thing..lol, makes you wana take your sled strait
to a dealer....NOT!!!!!!!

They are a top yamaha dealer!

I trust what they say. They are a top yamaha dealer and sell about 250 units a year. Have 8200 miles on it now and it hasn't gotten any-worse. add coolant about once or twice a year. If it is a steady leak then it is a different story. People on this site are very helpful too.

the thing is have never heard of bleeding air out weap hole,i still don't buy it,thats part of the job of the rad cap...but what ever moving on. :)
