Greetings to all, new member here. I have owned newer Polaris, Cat and Ski-Doo sleds and sold them all. I guess I got bored, I'm not sure why because they were all good performers in different aspects. I'm sledless (late model anyway) and will be checking out a '98 SRX700 with 1500 miles. Completely stock. I have always been interested in this particular model. I would be giving up a few model years and of course suspension travel, but I want/like the triple cylinder motor. I guess my question to fellow members, would be what to look for during inspection. Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

-Mike.

YOU NEVER GO BACKWARDS WITH ANY SRX. YES I AM VERY BIAS BUT THIS IS ONE OF THE ALL TIME GREAT SNOWMOBILES OF ALL TIME. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Make sure the crank update has been done, also the stock clutching on the 98' model is terrible so unless it's been done you'll need to get the clutch dialed in. Super reliable sleds with excellent resale value.

SRX go for it !!!

Will have to agree with the above. Got a 2000 700 SRX 2 years ago, and this is by far a true perfomer. Reliable, fast and fairly easy to work on, especially with the help and knowledge from the folks on this site. Not an expert on what to look for, but with reading almost all posts that have been here since i joined, you should look for a crankshaft recall on the 98' models. Don't let that scare you away tho, most have been repaired at the dealers. I am under the impression that you can check on this thru the VIN#. Do a search on cranks on this site and read about it. Maybe just a look at the Front "W" arm in the rear suspension also, check to see if it is cracked or bent also. Easy fix if you have welding/metal working shop/buddies available. Ride safe, al

Welcome to the blue side...as most will agree it's an awesome sled, just follow a few tips from here & you'll be in great shape when making your decision to purchase...cheers

No yamaha will not cover the repair now. Check the powervalves as they can get pretty pricey...

O.K. fellas, I'm looking forward to riding a triple again. If the crank is original (unlikely??) should I still pick it up. Would Yamaha still be responsible for possible replacement?

you can get the VIN checked on the motor to see if the crank update was done or not i'm pretty sure.
