well the wife told me to buy something for the big 4 for Christmas from her so I'm looking at a set of pipes...so the question is will it give me more bottom and top end?? how much more then stock, is it a good investment? any info would be great...thanks, Rob

putting quad pipes on those 8's are nasty! you will see nothing but gains if all is set up correctly. what pipes are you looking into getting? PSI pipes are good... You'll be in the 160hp range with quads.

yes I'm looking at the PSI modblasters and Iantomasi did the motor in it so all it needs is the pipes...thanks for the reply

The quads will make an incredible difference to your Vmax4.

Mine is the 94-750 so a bit less hp than the 800 but.........
wow...what a difference through the ENTIRE powerband.

Dont overlook the clutching...I am not a clutch guru at all...but...
big gains to be had there too...especially after adding the pipes.
That motor is gonna run a lot nicer & ...the sound is AWESOME !!!

Enjoy the upgrade!!! ;)!

Pretty good choice, GET the clutching dialed in to the right RPM, and have fun! Is that motor is ported, hold on! The pipes make a nice difference!

thanks Rob but when the motor was done they did some clutching to it engages at 4500 rpms does that sound ok or is that to low or to high...

and they took some off the head...

Yeah to bring the compression up after porting. Once you raise the exhaust ports that's less sealed cyl. volume, So you shave the head to raise the compression.

Also, For clutching it's not always about the Engagement. Although that Engage is ok. You have to find out where peak power is made with the pipes, and That's your target peak RPM. You always want to be in the power band for RPM while riding at full throttle. There are different springs (Primary and secondary), Secondary Helix ramp angles, weights (Primary), Rivets to fine tune Weights, Rollers, Shims and machining that all effects the way the clutches work. So find out peak power and get the RPMS there for peak performance. I'm going to get a dyno in a week and a half. This way I'll find out my power band and clutch to it.

I'm either going to see Ger/Flav Or CJF. Who ever can get me in sooner.

i didn't know CJF had one what do they charge??

They're setting it up as we speak. I think they are going to be around $75/Hr. They're only a hop, skip and a jump from you.

Yeah That's not to bad, Call and see when they're going to start booking dyno's. I spoke to them Monday and they said next week they will have it done.

RE: Clutching

Mine engages at 4500 rpm & tops out at 8350-8400 which is where the 750
as I understand, is right where it should be.
You will hear talk of spinning them higher but...they had the crank welded or whatever...especially with the 750 motor for the 8800 plus rpms.

My fine tuning focus has been in the helix for good shifting patterns to match my riding style as I am happy with the primary where it sits right now.

I am running a Hauck 47-42 helix which I am still working on with springs etc.
I may change it as the clutch tends to "upshift" too quick when boondocking etc. Again, clutching is tuned to riders need. The way mine is set right now is awesome for serious straight line pulling....perfect there but needs work for the "off trail" stuff.

Once ya ride it...you will know what it can do & where ya want to go with it.

Have fun!! ;)!
