Clutch Maintenance?

This is the first year I've owned this sled. It's a Vmax 700sx with 3900 miles. Is their any specific maintenance I should do to the clutches, before the season starts. The belt looks good (8DN), but a bought a new one anyways.

Prevanative maintainence is always a good practice.... Take them off and clean them, dissassemble them and go over bushings and rollers, etc. Throw it all in the dishwasher and that will be good, i've never done the dishwasher thing but have heard of people doing it. if you want just clean it all up by hand, which ever you perfer.

Check the cover bushing for side 2 side play. Disassemble primary clutch and ensure that the wieghts and bushings are free to turn. Check the weights for side play. Clean the sheaves with 400 grit sand paper. Wash belt with soap and water. That clutch should be good for at least 10,00 km. Secondary, clean sheaves with 400 grit, Check ramp bushings for excessive wear and grease the sec clutch shaft. Were good 2 go.

My brother said I should put a dab of antiseize on the rollers. Is that a good idea?

NO! It collects belt dust and will make them stick.

you can though use a dry film lube spray(graphite)on the contact areas,i do that

i use a product called tri-flow. its a dry teflon lube. never had any problems. any stay moist lubes will collect belt dust and other debris. the clutches are designed to run as dry as cobwebs....

I would love to see the look on my wifes face when see finds my clutch in the dishwasher. I just would not want to be around to hear about it.

I've used Tri-flow for many years with great results. It's all I'll use on my clutch's.

No, do not use any harsh solvents like brake or carb cleaner. It can damage the bushings on the rollers and the other bushings on the cover.

I just use WD-40 and a tooth brush, paint brush, or a parts brush. Scrub everything down really well. Then I just use a mild dish soap, like Dawn, and wash everything with soapy water and rinse really well. Then lube the bushings and weighs with a good dry lube.

Measure the belt. The 8DN is a very hard belt and can look good but be worn past tolerance.
