My daily driver happens to be a car, i pull trailer with a truck don't worry.
But its a 97 buick riviera and the thermostat is wierd on these cars, its all digital, there is an auto temp feature on the car that senses when to turn the heat on when it drops below a certain temp (retarded!) first off, i go to warm up my car 15 minutes before i get in it expecting it to be warm inside when i get in... It was still cold and i had it set for full fan on max heat, i was getting nothing.... NORMALLY it will kick in right away and then get real hot in there like it should if i have it set to hot. but it decided not to work on a 10 degree night on the way home from work... it kicked in once on the ride home for about 10 seconds blowing heat but then shut off again... every now and then it will do this and it has been a problem, but it really got me pissed when it was this effin cold out and decided not to do anything at all.... i wanna know what my problem could be....
also, there must be a line dividing the car in half when it comes to where it blows heat and something must be backwards in there after a new blower motor installed about a year ago (before i owned the car) when i have it on heat, my side will blow the opposite (cold) and when i have it on cold it will blow the opposite (hot), passenger side is normal.... driver side is not
WTF is up with buicks!
If i could get another car i would but its been good to me in all other aspects besides this damn thermostat problem....

Blend doors. yeah....
That reminds me of the issue on my moms 99 grand cherokee ltd. Hopefully that part of the fix I had to do on the jeep is as easy on the buick, or easier than the jeep I had to do. It was only easy due to someone's ingenuity, and putting their product on ebay that it was simple. Now the recirc door was a complete dash removal job... I did both at the same time, took me about 8 hours total. It will never break again now that it has steel and aluminum parts in it, but the factory plastic parts broke twice in under 50k total miles on the jeep. The first time it happened just barely before the warranty expired, and that would have been 1200-1400 dollars otherwise.
So hopefully it is an easy fix for you.

I have found pens and pencils jamming the doors open or closed which could also give you the strange hot\cold stuff.

Yes the motor gets up to operating temp no problem. i figure it was the blend doors,
I don't work on cars, so i don't want to work on anything on this car because its way over my head when it comes to the thermostat.
Trucks are my thing

dumb question,,but,, is there enough anti freeze??? I saw if it was low enough,, you'd have erratic heat

those usually have an electrionic module that controls the doors. by you telling us the temp, it sounds like it is one of the digital ones and the temp sensor in the panel is toast or broken. go to the scrapyard and get a new to you one. test it if you can or get a return garuntee from the guy if it does not work.

NOSBOY, i need a new plenum gasket, i am loosing coolant on the regular, the puke take has some but not much in there.... i never overheat and just had the coolant flushed, and i am deciding weather or not i want to have a plenum gasket installed for 300+ bucks. Need to have the blend doors looked at.
