just rebuilt 2 yamaha ventures (500, 600) and installed new oil pumps on each machine. both machines are running great however the 600 is not using oil!!! i was checking the levels during the first few rides and was running mixed fuel as a fail safe. before i pull the pump again are there other checks i should do? do the pumps need primed? if so how? thanks

Do you have a manual?

Usually there is a bleed bolt on the oil pump. youll see the bleeder tube bolted to the reed block, remove the plug and the oil will start to come out and bubble, replace the bolt and thats it, simple.

I bet you need to bleed the air out.

Running premix the first tank and paying attention to the level in the oil tank are good ways to be certain your pump is feeding oil, and that you don't fry the motor due to an air bubble, or not properly adjusted pump.

for twins...

top off the oil tank, remove the beed bolt(pic) on the pump let oil run till no more air comes out.

then make sure aliment marks(pic again)are lined up at full throttle.

pump should bleed it's self too as it's running...keep the premix in till
your sure it's working.
