My stepson is leaving Waukesha,Wisconsin this morning at 4:00 am and heading back to Winnipeg. There is a major blizzard and heavy snowfall warning out for the Northern States and for us here.He usually gets home around 6:30 pm our time.If someone can chime in on the weather in Minnesota and North Dakota and let me know if he would be heading into nasty stuff. He would be heading thru Minneapolis to Fargo to Grand Forks and then to the border to Manitoba. If the conditions are really bad, they would probably shut down some roads.Supposed to be whitout conditions and really cold windchills. My wife is really worried.

this is our forcast warning.

WIND CHILL WARNING: City of WinnipegIssued at 4:45 AM CST SATURDAY 13 DECEMBER 2008
EXTREME WIND CHILLS TONIGHT AND SUNDAY. THIS IS A WARNING THAT EXTREME WIND CHILL CONDITIONS ARE IMMINENT OR OCCURRING IN THESE REGIONS. MONITOR WEATHER CONDITIONS..LISTEN FOR UPDATED STATEMENTS.

AN INTENSE WEATHER SYSTEM MOVING THROUGH THE NORTHERN STATES HAS GIVEN BLIZZARD CONDITIONS AND HEAVY SNOW TO SOUTHERN ALBERTA AND SOUTHWESTERN SASKATCHEWAN DURING THE NIGHT. THE SYSTEM WILL CONTINUE MOVING EASTWARD TODAY SPREADING SNOW MAINLY TO AREAS ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE TRANS-CANADA HIGHWAY. NORTHERLY WINDS WILL STRENGTHEN LATER TODAY OVER SOUTHERN MANITOBA, REACHING 40 GUSTING 60 KM/H IN MANY AREAS. THE HARDEST HIT AREA IS LIKELY TO BE OVER THE SOUTHERN RED RIVER VALLEY WHERE NORTH WINDS OF 50 GUSTING 70 TONIGHT COMBINED WITH THE SNOW WILL GIVE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WHICH WILL PERSIST INTO SUNDAY AFTERNOON. OTHER REGIONS SOUTH OF THE TRANS-CANADA MAY HAVE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS AT TIMES, HOWEVER VISIBILITIES ARE NOT EXPECTED TO BE QUITE AS BAD AS OVER THE SOUTHERN RED RIVER VALLEY. TOTAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WITH THIS SYSTEM ARE EXPECTED TO BE FROM 10 TO 15 CM OVER THE SPRAGUE REGION, 5 TO 10 CM IN OTHER AREAS SOUTH OF THE TRANS-CANADA, AND LESSER AMOUNTS ELSEWHERE. IN ADDITION TO THE SNOW AND STRONG WINDS, EXTREME WIND CHILLS IN THE MINUS 40 TO MINUS 45 RANGE ARE EXPECTED IN MANY AREAS TONIGHT AND SUNDAY AS TEMPERATURES PLUNGE INTO THE MINUS 25 TO MINUS 30 RANGE COMBINED WITH THE STRONG WINDS. IMPROVING VISIBILITIES ARE EXPECTED SUNDAY AFTERNOON OR EVENING AS THE SYSTEM MOVES AWAY FROM THE AREA, HOWEVER BITTERLY COLD ARCTIC AIR WILL CONTINUE TO AFFECT THE PRAIRIES SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY. DEPENDING ON THE TRACK OF THE HEAVIER SNOW AND STRONGER WINDS, WARNING REGIONS MAY SHIFT SLIGHTLY THROUGHOUT THE DAY TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS.

It didn't do crap, besides get warm and melt a lot of what we had. It rained too. YUK!
But they were good driving conditions at least.

bluemonster1, did your stepson make it home safe and sound, looks like the got hammered in North Dakota, sure wish we would get some of that.

I know most of yesterday I-94 from alexandria to fargo was closed and I-29 from the south dakota border to the canadian border was also closed. wind is still blowing today but it is not snowing anymore. wind chills are as low as -42 degrees F. Fargo got about a foot of snow and grand forks got about 6 inches. Sorry for the late help.

blkmax600.Thanks for asking.Yep he made it home before the big storm. He came in Saturday at 7:00 in the evening. It was a 14 hour ride from Wisconsin to here.He is one lucky stiff. You know these young guys travel all that way with no real emergency clothing with them.If his car would break down or he hits the ditch,he said someone would of picked him up...hopefully.He does not own a cell phone either.I don't think he could even change a flat tire..well not in the cold anyways. He said it was pretty well warm all the way until about Grand Forks.

Wow, no cell phone and no blanket of other emergency stuff?

That is scary. Glad to hear he made it back.
