i have a 1999 sx 700 it keeps over heating after i let it warm up sometimes not right away but no longer then 20 minutes and it has a bog to it as well sounds like its running on two cylinders instead of three but it idles fine i changed my head gaskets and check my water pump and that was working all the hoses get warm then the back all of a soden gets cold so i let the air pockets out and they get warm again but heat light stays on and they go cold again please help

I bet its the water pump impellor. Did u get all the air out of the system after you changed the head gasket?

is the system full of coolant, did you bleed it properly??how did you check
the pump?

pull carbs and clean good will help that, remove all jets and blow them
and carb passages out with shop air...

i took the cover off the water pump and pulled the sled over and the pump was turning with the clutch so i figerd it was ok i bled it properly i got all the air out and it was ok for about twenty minutes and then it over heated again and there was more air in there i bled it about five times now and it keeps building back up with air there was no damage to the impeller or nothing

Maybe head gasket install didn't go as planned, combustion getting into cooling system causing air? Whatever cylinder is fouling, maybe that gasket may be the culprit? Also, maybe a cracked cylinder or head?

Just a thought.

Check the head, and verify it is completly flat. The red head 700 has a very long and skinny head design. I have seen several of these with warped heads, primarily in the center, enough that when compression builds in the cylinder blowing air into the cooling system, thus creating an air bubble where the water pump cannot pump. You can check by running with cap off and check for air bubbles. I would advise of pulling head and check with straight edge. If head is warped take to a machine shop and have milled. I usually have the head milled .020, and then use the complete head gaskets. It is also worth while to check the deck height on all cylinders.

i have a mechanic that is going to fix it he says it was an easy fix for him hes going to charge me only 150 bucks but thanks for all the info
