Just got a 1973 GPX 292 going tonight and noticed that the steering really sucks. Is there anything to do other than replacing the ski's with newer ones to help the steering out a little. The carbides seemed to have some life left and the machine is in pretty good shape so I don't want to change too much if I don't have too. I really want to use the sled to pull a small ice shack around lakes when I go ice fishing this winter.

Easy way is put a set of ski spreaders on it that have a downward bend in them to put more pressure on the skis. Helps turning and stability. You can also drill mounting holes for the front set of Boggies above the running boards. This will take pressure off the track and put it on the skis. The 1973 Yamaha 15in sleds don't want to turn at all.
