Viper seat riser - How high is too high?

I am making my own seat riser based upon designs from previous threads. I'd be interested in hearing from people who have made their own riser and still desired more height. Is there a practical point at which it just doesn't make sense to go any higher? When does the setup/balance of the sled become a problem etc. Currently I have 3.75 inch rise at the back and 2.5 inch at the front but am considering increasing it all by another inch.

I just finished making my own riser. It's about 4" in the rear and 2.5" in the front. You could probably go to 3" in the front to make it more level but it gives a pretty good riding position right now. Almost rider forward lol, it's great.

At 4 inches rear and 3.5 in front, it is great for off-trail riding and standing up. However, the wind tries to take you off the sled at high speeds. Also you have to hang off the seat (like we used to do in the 70's and 80's) to corner very fast. Makes it a little harder to plant that outside ski.

I think it is the front height that affects this the most. It seems that 3.5 and 2.5 is the best. If you are freestyling or riding strictly off-trail, then higher would be better. You do have to raise the handlebars too.

I want to see pictures on everyones seat risers! I am considering buying a BOSS Seat since I cannot find a smart and not too complex version of a riser for the seat.

Tips and help are MUCH appriciated guys!!!

I also took the side pads out of my seat (I believe they are in the viper seat as well). It makes it much easier to stand and your feet don't get pushed off the running boards.

Isnt the highrise 4" higher than stock? That and a 6-8" bar riser should work perfect for boondocking. How much u want for the seat then? Maybe I can buy it from you and then you can get yourself a flat top?

I had to wait 3 months to get this one. I'm going to use it for now because i can't wait for another one. I might sell it in spring. It is 4" taller than stock. When sitting on it i'm way up there in the wind. Just feels different. maybe i'll get used to it. I only had it on for a few rides at the end of last year so i havn't really given it a chance. I'm 220lbs, thats a lot of top waight when trying to corner fast, and the sled feels more tippy. For me i think a flat top about 2" lower would be good for standing and handling.

If you want a seat from Boss that has to be made, order now for next year. They quit making the Viper model and only make the SX/SXR/SRX model now. The folks at Boss who you get to talk to on the phone don't know if the 2 are interchangeable. I believe that it is. I do think there is at least 1 guy there (I forget his name) that would know for sure.

They were way behind last year (and the year before), but now with them making seats for Arctic Cat they are ridiculosly backed up.

If you are strictly a trail rider, then the highrise is likely too high. It definitely takes more work to corner well.

I started one of the seat riser threads and I made mine from 2x4 with an extra 1" of foam in the seat. This seems to work for me at 6'4" tall with a 3" riser too. Trail rider.

I put a boss high rise flat top on my '03 Viper ER last season w/3inch bar riser and feel it's the best $600 I ever spent....

Rode this weekend with a relative with a viper w/stock seat and couldn't believe I EVER rode it that way before...

No matter how you achieve it, sitting higher is the only way to ride.

I ended up adding an extra inch of removable lift to the bottom of the riser I just made which makes the total elevation almost 5 inches at the back and 3 1/2 at the front. I can honestly say that I don't think that it is too high. The sled feels smaller now and seems to handle better too. I was worried that the balance would be thrown off enough to be problematic but the higher seating position seems to make the act of leaning into the corners that much easier. Standing up is no longer a chore either.

With a 3 1/2 inch rise at the front there is a heckofa gap between the seat and the gas tank though. I will post pics when I fill the gap. (I thought that spray foam into a garbage bag in the gap would do the trick but it seems that it won't harden if it is starved for air) :(

i have a boss flat top on my viper and thought that was way too high (with Airwave) for tight trail riding. had to go with a wide kit to lower the front end to get it from tipping.

just put a new boss flat top on my buddies viper on the weekend and it looks just like the seat on my viper. don't know why boss said they no longer make the vipers cause they look alike. unless the viper seat i got from boss 3 years ago was not for a viper. but don't think so.

I just got to ride my SRX for the first time with the custom seat that I got made and it is awesome! For $175 you cant go wrong. Way cheaper then a boss and just as good. I thought it was easier to corner because you have more leverage on the bars and its easier to hang off it. Also it felt like you have more weight on your feet to plant the inside ski better. You could just put all your weight on your feet to help it turn. Now I have an edge suspension and a tall seat on my SRX, I told my wife I don't think I will ever have to sell my sled because its about perfect now.

If you are (off trail) riding you dont really use the seat as you are standing 95% of the time. if you are sitting you are doing it wrong. get a flat top seat from boss, mountain machine or you can try a polaris X seat off the edge. they look pretty good on there, but you have to recover it as it has a polaris X on it, if you dont you will forsure brake down :) (.) (.)

I ended up creating a saddle bag of sorts to fill the large gap between the seat and the gas tank. The overall rise of the seat is 4.75 inches at the back and 3.5 inches at the front. I've been out twice with it and don't think I will lower it at all. I've attached a few pics.

Happy New Year boys!

Nice riser! What have u built it of? Any construction pictures would be much appreciated. Also any tips about what TO and what NOT to do, when building a riser.
