Is there differenences in chassis of a 97 Vmax 5/6/700 and an 02 Viper? As far as Im aware the only difference is looks/plastic body parts up front... Im mainly concerned with the tunnel tunnel. I had a fast m-12 in a 97 vmax 500, then when I bought my Viper I used the same mount kit & mounted it up exactly the same as it was in the 500. Toward the end of the year last season, I blew the right side front mount bolts right through the side of the tunnel, Im wondering if it was just a hard hit on a week spot, as I ride like i stole it, or if there is extra tension there because it was mounted wrong. I know not too many people have experiance with the m-12, but im assuming if the mounts for an m-10 are different between the two, so will the m-12...
Thanks for any info in advance, I want to get this thing back together soon running out of time...

same thing.
on an m10 if you used the older mount kit that uses four bolts through an arm that mounts to the tunnel you will want to either throw it away and buy a front shaft and collars for a rx1 or reuse it and make a hole right through the handle bar mounting hoop on the side of the frame..
the better of the two is to throw it away and use the rx1 front mount, it uses the stock front suspension mount hole.
friend had his rip out too and this was his fix, i used it when i installed in my viper as well and it never loosend up.

i think the running board brace/traction slab that came on the viper S which is available from yamaha, might help alleviate that problem? the 2 bolts on each side go right through this for extra reinforcement. no issues with mine in 2500 miles as i big (260+) and ride hard.

I just make backer plates out of 7075. They work real well without corrosion or rust issues. Personally I do not like drilling the steering gate, unless you reinforce it somehow. There are only 2 bolts per side holding it in place with nuts welded where it is drilled. I suppose you could weld a plate to the new hole. If you off-trail much, the first time you flop it on it's top, I would expect the steering gate to bend at the point it was drilled.

steering gate is structuraly weak at the factory top hole anyway, when they bend and or break off in an accident that is where they break. the way the hoop is made is perfect to bolt through and even holds the head of the bolt from turning.
