air screws 03 viper

I have never seen a Viper (20+ sleds come to mind) that ran well below 1 7/8 turns out. That said, I am sure that someone has seen it. Usually the lower midrange is too rich (needles), and the idle is too lean. The Viper has a very complex ignition map, which complicates adjusting the lower fuel mixture ranges.

ASSUMING the pilot jets/ciruit is clean, then try 2-1/2. If it's still lean, go up one size on the pilot jets and start over at around 1 turn out. That's what I'd do, anyway.
 
if it's still hanging at 2 1/4 and your P/J are clean as modit said you need to
go up on the pilots then back to 1 1/5 to 1 7/8 i nthe screws
 
Ill give that extra 1/4 turn a try, but should it change that much if every thing is clean and the sled is stock?

The farther you turn the screw out, the more tension you loose on the spring and you increase the risk of having the screw back all the way out by itself due to vibration.
 
If you have a stock motor, positively clean carbs, your screws out 2.25 turns and STILL have an idle hang, can you just leave it and be fine? I've never been able to completely get rid of it, keeping the stock pilot jets. The plugs and wash look fine after idling and low speed operation. Just wondering if there's any consequence to this, and if should I go get some bigger pilot jets?
 
I'm starting to have more idle hang than I used to have also.... carbs are cleaned well, fuel screws now out 2-1/8 ( used to be 2 turns ), have yet to try, just recleaned the carbs to double check them.

I wonder if engine wear would have an effect on this issue. I have 6300 miles on the rings, and due for a set of rings. I did notice alittle more fuel/oil in the airbox this time.... and the pedals look ok...could probably use some new ones there also.
 
You can adjust them out to about 2-2 1/4 turns before you need go to the next size up pj. once you get past 2 1/4 out you need a bigger pilot jet
then turn back to your stock setting.
