I might be an idiot, but i just don't understand the instructions shown. The yamaha pages state to test the servo by putting power in the test port. Done and all seems good. The valves pull completly open. The instructions then jump to having the gap in the valve housing at 2-3.5mm and adjust the cables accordingly. With the valves pulled open, there is no gap. How do I get the servo motor in the correct position to then set the gap on the valve housing?
I have 2 1998 SRX"s. one 600 and one 700. Both run reasonably well, but I want to make these settings are correct after cleaning.
Any help...please

this pv subject has been beat to DEATH this season.... Idle down the motor below 900 rpms and whent he servo jumps (opens the valves) shut the motor off then adjust accordingly.

as stated idle motor down below 900 if you have the cover off you will be able to see when this happens ...next thred the cables all the way in ...making sure the servo stays on the mark ....undo the 4 allen bolts and remove housing and valve ....remove valve from cable end ...might have to turn the servo to get off...clean valve ...aircraft stripper works the best of all the stuff i found and a old scotch brite pad ...after it is clean put valve back on cable ...be sure you install beveled edge down and tighten up the 4 bolts .....now once again make SURE the servo is still ont the mark if not turn it to the mark ...and than loosen the 2 bolts on the outer powervalve housing about 1/2 inch or a little bit more ...now place your 2.5 mm allen wrench between the two ..and than turn the cable end counterclock ways til the 2 housing come together touching the allen wrench ....the main thing here is to make sure when you tighten the cable end that the tension doesnt pull the servo off the mark ...once the 2 housings come together and touch allen wrench you are done ....repeat for the other 2 valves ....also you dont want the allen wrench to be pinched tight ..i usually back cable off 1/2 turn or less so the wrenches move freely ...ill dig up a few pics for you
daman bet me to the picture ....

^^^pretty much emphasizing on damans post. I figured the guy knew what to do besides how to set the servo.

We should get a sticky for the Pv subject, so the first thing people see is a complete list of what do to besides repetive question posts.
thanks for the info. The part that gets me is 1st, i seem to have a problem getting the rpm to drop that low. ( throttle cable might be too tight). 2nd when I shut down the machine the servo then turns a few degrees and tightens the cables a little. Is this the correct position or should I have marked the servo while it was still running?

If you can't get it that low by adjusting the idle screw, hit the choke for a second, you will see the servo jump and stay in a steady position, then you shut the motor off and mark the servo and then adjust... the cables will be tight because the servo opened the valves all the way, simply loosen the nuts on the servo and then screw in the adjusters all the way in and that will give you enough room to get the two 2.5mm allen wrenchs in there.

I snap vicegrips on the servio pully and lean the handle on the air box on my 98.That way i know the pully stays put when adjusting cables.
i did one of mine lastnight and i had the same problem with the servo turning just a degree or 2 after i shut it off ....and come to find out the cables were routed wrong ....so i unthreaded the cables all the way out of the servo leaving the ball ends in the pulley than i started it again and idled it down and than it didnt turn after shutting it off ....i think since the cable was in the wrong hole on the pulley and wrouted wrong it was pulling back on the cable .....i had another sled rite next to me to use as a reference ...so be sure to take pictures and make a drawing of how it was so you can put back exactly how it was once you confirm routing is correctmrhabibi said:thanks for the info. Its a good idea to back the cables off first than start/set with low idle than clamp with the vicegrips than you can set adjustment and as you say check for proper routing as well as you do it.

if the servo is "backing off" on you after shut down your cables
are too tight(not good,needs adjusting)..
