Hello,
Have a fair sized decal on my windsheild that I'm removing and replacing with something else. Anyone have any hints on how best to remove it?
I've used a hair dryer to remove my yearly trail pass, but it leave the glue on the surface. It has never bothered me because I've always replaced it. But my new decals will not cover the same surface area.
Any advice?
Thanks,
-Jon

I have used a heat gun and have used a razor and scraped ever so lightly.

Once you get it pealed off with heat, take some sunlight dishsoap (lemon) and wipe gently with a soft cloth. I wouldn't use any abrasives.

go to the auto paint store that sells dupont, look for a product called 3939, it is a solvent that wont harm new paint(or plastic) whip will work but is strong to use on plastic and may leave scratches from rags.
use a heat gun to soffen and peal, then soak rag with 3939 and keep wet. you can use a dryer rag to wipe off goo, then rewet and repete.
good luck.
this product is good for using to remove tar from your car also.

Use a heat gun, and for the residue you can try wd40, or go to a bodyshop supply store and ask for a degreaser suitable for plastic.

I agree with boondoctor about the wd40. I just did it to my old trail sticker and the adhesive just came right off.

don't use 3939s
I sell Dupont and I wouldn't use 3939s. It's a pretty strong solvent that evaporates too slowly. You don't want wet solvent on plastic for too long or it could melt it. Believe me I use 3939 for many, many things but not on my snowmobile windshields. 3M adhesive remover is very strong also. I have guys use that product in heavy silicone removal situations prior to sanding and painting. It's very aggressive. Go get some 3M citrus cleaner in an aerosol can, part number 76394. This is totally safe for all substrates. Even a citrus pump spray air freshener will take adhesive off. You can get that at Wal-Mart if you want. If you want I can mail a can of 3M citrus cleaner to you. It's not very expensive an one can will last a lifetime. You would be amazed at what you can use this stuff on. Chad.

I have done this before. Go to a hardware store and ask for goo gone or a citris based cleaner with a clean cotton shirt and turn as you clean. The citrus stuff is the best. Let it sit on the sticker residue and it will gum up and come off. Never use any razor or abrasive to the widshield. I tried the citrus cleaner on a black hood and it came out perferct. Good luck and take your time.

You do not have to go buy any thing to take off the adhesive residue, I have done it many times, and I have found that WD-40 works well, and also so does rubbing alcohol. I have a 2002 440 PROX, and took off all of my factory warning lables this way!!! good luck!!

Heat gun, razor blade and then some glue remover called "GOO-GONE" once the decal is off. I used on my truck, motorcycle and the racecar and it took the glue from every decal off with ease.

With this in mind, what you recomend to remove clear plastic tape?
I need to find a way to remove clear tape from the hood of my machine. The dealer in a lost moment taped the price sticker on the hood. It was in the sun and the tape is really on, if you know what I mean. Since, I don't want to make it worse, i've left it alone. The tape covers both body and factory decal. Would this citrus spray work? Suggestions?

Removing decal/Tape
Maim,
Use the Goo-Gone. I have used it on decals, scotch tape, duct tape and anything else that leaves a sticky residue with great success.
