i have a 97 SX700 which now has viper suspension front and rear. the problem i am about to describe i had before the suspension change. the skid is set up the betheviper way. the skid is tight. i made all new bushings myself. the front shocks are set up with minimal pre load. the camber is correct and so is the toe. for some reason this sled has cat plastic skis with fresh 8" carbides and new rubbers. i have two 1/4" spacers under the rubber in the correct place and it still darts like crazy and is very hard to steer at low speeds and through the wooded areas. ( the wooded areas around here are VERY TIGHT) in the fields at low speeds its hard to steer and this thing pushes hard through the corners and i have to let off to get it to turn..more throttle seems to correct the problem in the fields. i am pretty much lost at this point. i dont know if i need different skis or need to make some suspension adjustments. my limiters have a 1/2" of thread showing. i need this sled to turn!! i am open to skis suggestions as well. BUT I DO NOT HAVE $400. for skis at this time. so if someone has used ones let me know. i ride the trails no boon docking around here and the snow is usually thin.

Have the same sled and have done the same Viper susp. I used Viper/SRX skis with ski savers and shimmed the skis as you did. Sled handles great on the trails.Maybe those cat skis are the problem. Check the height on them( where the bolt goes thru) and compare them to a Viper or SRX. A diff height here will screw up your SIA (steering geometry)
I paid $100 for good used set of skis

take a look at the carbides on the cement floor with someone on the sled(bribe with beer if nessasary)
i want to know what you find. those are a good ski, i think you have something going on with rubber or mount.

also, just to make sure, did you do the alignment with weight on sled? what do the skis have for carbides, brand, length, condition?

also, what rubbers are under the spindles?

i had 2 80# bags of salt on the seat when i did everything. that's just about my weight. i have brand new 8" woodies carbides on them with brand new kimpex rubbers for a viper or srx . i have two 1/4" shims under the back of the rubbers and the front of the carbide is still on the floor. the mounts are flat so i had to cut off the rubber on the ends so they would set flat on the mount. maybe that was wrong but it seemed right at the time. what do you think about a set of skis from an 08 nitro?? i can get them really cheap. thanks for all the help. mike

i just looking through my DK catalog and it looks like i should be using 10-5956 rubber. i think these skis are off of a Z570 if i remember correctly.there were no rubbers when i got the sled last year. i tried to find the part # for the carbides but no luck. i thought i saved the packaging. i can send you a pic tomorrow if this helps.
