I have a 99 sx 600 that runs good until it gets all the way warmed up. At first i thought it was just the pilot jets getting plugged because there was always something in them when I checked but now I think there's another problem. At low rpm (<6000) the sled isn't running smooth, it sounds like it's mostly running on two cylinders with the other just puttering along not really doing anything. At higher rpm's it runs great, real smooth and a lot of power. Then next thing I'm gonna try is adjusting the fuel screws, they're at 2 turns out now, but i'm not sure if i need to go richer or leaner? Also I plan on changing where the throttle sits at idle on each carb. Any other suggestions?

Make sure the carbs are synced and that the chokes are not hung up in one of the carbs.
I have the same sled and had a couple of similar problems. There were two things wrong with my sled.
One, the wiring harness runs under the engine, it was worn through and some of the wires were shorting out which caused intermitant problems. The only way to find and fix the problem was pulling the engine.
Second, even though the plug wires and boots looked ok they were wore out and had way to much resistance. It would run rough at low rpm but run just OK at higher rpm. I don't remember what the Ohlm reading is supposed to be but I do know that changing them fixed the remainder of the problem I was having.

you dont have to pull the motor to fix the wiring harness...way too much work.
Tie a string to the harness where it disconnects from the lights and gages. Pull the harness from the carb side of the motor (make sure the string stays tied and out the front) tape each induvidual wire then the entire harness and pull the wiring harness back under using the string you tied to the harness....I have done this to 3 or 4 sleds now... easy and quick.

Is it common to wear through the wire harness? Is it common to all models or a specific problem on a few?
