Well I got the new SRX out for the first few times these past few weekends and let me say ITS AWESOME!!!!! All my buddies that have been talkin sh!t the whole summer while I was workin on this sled shut rite the hell up when I smoked them on our first line up.

Anyway, the only issue I had was that I discovered that my speedo and odometers dont work. I know a little about how they work and all but I havent ever had to work on one. What most likely broke? The pin that turns the cable? How big of a deal is it to fix? Im not horibly worried about it at the moment but it would be nice to know how fast I'm goin when I'm pullin away form the pack....lol

Any insight from you guys? I know this is a pretty common issue/fix with sleds in general.... somebody out ther knows about it.

Thanks in advance!

Unscrew the cable from the drive axle and check to see if the square key is broken. If that is ok,its most likely your speedo cable. You can unscrew the cable from the back of the speedo, put the sled up on a stand and run it while watching to see if the speedo cable is spinning.

Cool. sounds easy enough. The bad thing is now I have to wait till the next time I head north since the sled is still up there. I just have to remember to take the cable off the parts sled before I go. Thanks for the advice!!

As fast you say you were going - make up a number, it is your story after all ;)!

Yeah, thats what I figured. I think my buddies all had that same idea - all summer long thay were tellin me how fast their sleds were and what they top out at and all that kinda stuff. Funny tho after that run one of them said he was only doin 85, and wasnt tryin to keep up but the other guy that ran said he was around 110ish. I guess it all depends on who you talk to. (I could always be like that add somebody found in the classifieds somewhere - I was doin about a buck 70ish..:o|...lol... ..) I really dont care how fast I was actually goin, all I know is that I was out front!

Many GPS units will tell you what your top speed was. I know both of my Garmins do. Very accurate if you have a place to put it where it will still see satellites.

Dam, thought I had a couple of bites...

Yeah, GPS... My dad has one....maybe I can steal... I mean borrow his... I just got out of college so all my spare change is goin to keepin my sled runnin and me out on the trail. I definately want to invest in one of those eventually, their pretty damn handy. Untill then, trail maps and a compass are WAY cheaper. I honestly didnt know they did top speed tho, thats pretty cool.

What were your RPMs at, should be able to figure out how fast you were going from that...

   :WayCool:

Yeah I know but those are my buddies sleds so I'm gonna keep beatin up on them untill they buy somethin else.... They gave me sh!t all summer long for buyin two broke @$$ sleds but now its my turn to fling some poo back at them all winter long!!!

ya, polaris guys are good at talking in the summer...thats about it

then again, they are good at talking to their DEALERS in winter, asking when the POS will be fixed

Make sure you bring your spare cable AND the little drive key behind the housing. Or stop and get a new one before you go. Item #15

I didn't want to offend . . .

If your clutches are working properly (it appears they are) you would hit max power rpm and stay there until fully shifted out. Then you would go up until timing retard hits the wall. Who knows how much your track is slipping.

GPS: the ultimate de-liar . . .

My garmin 350 for my car shows max speed that was hit while riding. Throw one in your jacket pocket and make some passes do not be suprised if it is showing lower then it used too. Speedos on sled tend to read anywhere from 5-15 mph faster then you are actually going.

Polaris 700s, cmon...my buddies 04 Edge X 800 nor his 2000 XCR 800 could get me. Mine is one of them "slow 98 models" He was really suprised when I completely WAXED his XCR, it wasn't even close, by about 70 I had already pulled about 3 sleds on him...
