Greetings, I just purchased a ripsaw for a 99 sx 600. Looking through the service manual, it doesn't look too difficult but....you know how that goes. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help save some time/anguish?
;)!
Thanks

I have three questions.

1. The oil drain plug. I've reached around and can't feel it. The instructions say "under the tunnel". Do they mean inside the belly pan? I see it in the diagram, but it sure looks like it would be hard to access. Am I missing something obvious?

2. If the speedo side bearing and collar are stuck, it says to use a puller. Is this a pain with the Driven clutch still on?

3. Is it necessary to mark the drive shaft to properly position it during install, or does it "fall into place" on its own?

Thanks in advance.

1. It is down by your track opposite of the chaincase.

2. You are going to have to remove the secondary clutch in order to get at the bearing easily.

3. The bearing will go onto the driveshaft by itself. There are 2 different style bearings that i know of. One uses 2 set screws and the other style uses 1 set screws and twists to lock onto the shaft.

Let's try Number 3 again. How do you make sure that you reposition the drive shaft in the correct place, left to right, so that everything lines up(like the track drive wheels)? Do the gears and bearings only go on so far?

The shaft will be positioned correctly automatically.

If you start digging into this project you will see that it isnt very difficult.
