if you buy a new sled with a loan do you have to get insurance? i would want at least collision. hate to borrow money and then have a wreck. i have progressive on my bike and its only $350.00 for full coverage on a 2006 m109R . i have 100/300/100 with $250. deductibles. i checked them on a few new sleds i would be considering and they want over $1000. they are F in nuts if i would pay that kind of money for maybe 3 months of riding. so where to get reasonable priced insurance?

Yes, they require full coverage, it is technically their sled until its payed off, I am with progressive with full coverage on my srx700 and its 188.00 a year. What sled you lookin at buyin? they go alot based on age, driving record in the past, and all that stuff.

But i hear progressive can screw ya over if you have to actually use the insurance, HorkN has more info on that for ya though, i personally have no problems as of yet with progressive, but i have not had to use my insurance yet.

Maybe, maybe not. It depends upon your age and the displacement of the sled. I know that a lot of insurance companies jack up their rates on the 4-strokes because they are 1,000cc. In the past, they have been very hesitant to insure 1,000cc sleds and the insurance companies dont look at whether its a 2-stroke or 4-stroke.
They are getting better though. Some insurance companies are starting to go by HP instead of CC, but a lot of them still jack up the rates if you want to insure a sled that is 1,000cc.

Ok, so its the same with "super sport" 1000cc bikes, thats what i was figuring. didn't know if they did the same thing with sleds

I bet you could get better rates if you lump all the toys together with your Auto insurance. Even when new I never paid moe than 200 a year for full insurance ona sled. Now all 4 of mine are not even 200 a year with all but the oldest on full insurance.

Yes, beware of progressive. They are OK until you actually need to use your insurance. Farmers or state farm are pretty good for sled insurance.

We use Liberty. And have used the coverage on a sled my dad owned but had full coverage on. They were pretty easy to deal with and were not too hard on the check book.

My buddy Bill had AAA on everything he owned and his full coverage rate on a new (in 2005) '05 Rev 800 was just over $800 a season. Good thing it was insured cause he hit a tree with it shortly after he got it. Paying 10% of the sled price for insurance sucks though.
