1989 Exciter Backfiring

I have a 1989 Exciter that has just come off a fresh rebuild. I started it up, it ran fine for a couple of short rides, but then it started bogging and backfiring. Anyone have any ideas what might cause this?

old bad fuel/clogged pilots?

Im sure others will give you some other things to look at. Dirty carbs do mysterious things though.

Thanks. I got it running now. When I was rebuilding the engine my timing some how got changed. I reset the timing and threw a new set of plugs in and two pulls later it was running like a top.

dont forget to keep tightening you head bolts or you'll blow it up!
