When adding coolant to my 00' SRX and after bleeding the sytem, I usually take the resivoir cap off and let the sled run to see the coolant start to circulate. Normally this takes a few minutes. This time I noticed the coolant circulating immediately. Could my themostat be gone? Anyone know what tempurature it should open at?

srx stat opens at 112 to 120F in that area,does it seem to run any cooler?

Yeah, I started from dead cold and noticed it cirulating right away. Could this possibly cause the sled to be hard on gas because this 00' is way harder on fuel than my 98. I just bought this sled last year and it was ported. I've since gone back to stock cylinders and jetting and am now looking at going back to stock clutching because of the fuel consumption. Could the thermostat have been my problem all along??

I would have to say no,,i do know like my XTC there is no thermo in that sled(no twin "97-'01)from the factory and have no problems with that. i'm thinking my srx circulates right away too but cant remeber for sure.
it's simple to pop the thermo out and check real qwick..drop it in some hot water and see how it's opening.they usally don't go bad tho..

I could see maybe bad gas mileage while its cold, but when its warmed up, the thermostat stays open anyway. Should have no effect once its up to temp.
I know in some vehicles if the thermostat sticks open the motor won't even reach operating temprature and they become hard on fuel. Not sure if this would be the case with a sled since there in no gauge.
It would just take longer for vehicle to reach operating temp. It would get there eventually depending on how hard your using the throttle/load on it.
Even cars with a thermostat stuck open will eventually get to temp/ But other things come into play w/ cars/truck because the computer is looking for specific readings from coolant sensors.
As for the sled as long as its the correct thermostat for your sled, even it was stuck open the sled would be up to temp in the first 5 /10 min you rode it.

did you ever over heat the sled? because if you did the thermostat is probally gone.on my 98' i overheated it in low snow conditions and the thermostat actually opened so much it busted it's self apart and stayed open.twice. it wont make your sled any harder on fuel though .fuel injected vehicles do that because if the engine don't heat up to proper temp the computer sees it and dumps more fuel in just like the choke staying on . the jets in your carbs only flow what they flow and you control the choke not a computer.

Well, after some investigating I have discovered that the themostat does normaly stay closed until 42 Celcius but it seems that there is a bypass circuit. It seems that the bypass circuit allows coolant to flow through the motor only and once that is up to temp the thermostat opens and allows coolant to flow throught he coolers or exchangers. Someone on here may be able to confirm this. Anyhow I also discovered that the previoius owner had wedged the themostat open for some reason. Not sure why someone would do this but I thought possibly for grass drags or something. Possibly so coolant could flow through the coolers all the time. Anyone know if this is common when grass dragging?
