I'm trying to decide if I should go 141 on my SXR or just 136. I do 80% trail riding and 20% trying to climb things. My main reason for asking is that I have a really nice 141" track but only an old Venture track for a 136". Obviously there is going to be some "push" with the 141 but is it alot more then the 136 or is it bearable??
Thanks
Thanks

I rode my 01 700 mm with a 141 X1.1 on the trails & as long as you keep the front end widened & sway bars attached it will be fine.

It's got a 44" Sno-tek front with Ohlins SnoX shocks. 10" of carbide and VX301s...That should do it no?

Doc, as long as you don,t narrow out the front to 38.5" mountain specs you will be fine.

There is really not a lot of difference in length between the 136 and 141. Only about 2.5 inches on the ground. However, there is a lot of difference in what skid setup you use. I would find a 2000 or newer MM skid to drop in. There are a couple for sale on SnoWest right now.
Not to confuse you, but there are also 136 skids out of RX Warriors available too. I have no hands on experience with this combination, but have heard a few people say it works nice.

Ya I've got a brand new MM skid to drop in for the 141. The issue is that I've already gone through the effort of relocating the skid to work with the 126" that I had in there (for 50kms). I also bought the custom rail extensions to work with the 136 and my 8" wheels. I am now thinking that everything will just work better if I move everything back to the stock location and use the factory 141 skid with the 1.1" track..forget about screwing around with extensions and big wheels...less work more riding. I just wanted to make sure it turned! I have enough trouble keeping it one the trail with a 121 lol.

relocating skid
If you have a 00 and up 141 MMax skid you have to relocate the front swing arm 9" back on your SX. Totally different mount locations front and back on the newer MM skids compared to the W arm suspensions on the older 136" MMxs and 121 proactions.

9 inchs?? I doesn't seem that different. Anybody have mounting location measurements.

Quick check, see if it's got a W arm or H arm then look at a newer (00 and up MMax or Mviper with H arm) and see where front shaft bolt is located. Should be to the rear of the boot step for the H arm 141 and by your toe for the older W armed MM 136 and 121 SX where yours should be. I ran for 2 years with the 121 rails and stock mounting location with 10" extensions to stretch me out to 141. The drawback is tail landings because of the leverage of the longer extension and forward rear mount location that as well as rider weight has an effect on bottoming easier. I'm 170 lbs.
Just a thought you can run a W arm on the newer 141 rails. The 141 rails bump stops hit the mounting bolt cross shafts font and rear where as the 136 rails the rail tips bottom out inside the W arm.

It's definetly an H arm. It must have an ok approach angle when its moved back that far. I'm going to assume the rear mounts have to be move back as well.

Yes you have to also move the rear mount back. Try your Yamaha dealer and see if you can get the templates for the 02 viper to make it into a 141 Mountain sled. Here in Canada Yamaha came with a long track option kit for the first year shorty 02 Viper into a longtrack mountain sled. The templates should work for your mount locations for the H arm suspension.

I'll try and find a template....Why doesn't anything just bolt in???

I'm trying to figure out a M 10 W and wonder what I needed it for. Pro action worked fine, better in the mountains then the M 10 so far.

Soon!! I've got a standing invite from acouple of guys...I just have to get myself out there. Hopefully in the spring...I would love to bring my own sled but that is alittle impractical and I doubt my trail setup would go very far in the steep and deep. Soon though!!

if you do both why not use a 141 and bend the rear of the rails at a point where there is a wheel. then on hard pack you would be using a shorty good for turning?

How much cornering?
Now, when you say you ride "80% trails and 20% climbing" what exactly do you mean by "trails"?
The reason I ask is because "trails" can mean a lot of different things. When I ride, its a lot of trails that are in the state/national forests, so its a lot of tight and twisty riding. For that, I dont think that even a 136" would handle it as well as a 121". I like having a sled that I can come up to a corner, tap the brake to plant the front end and then crank the bars hard to make the corner. I have my doubts that a 136" would be able to do this as easily.
However, if you ride on mostly long, straight trails such as railroad beds, you would be just fine.
Ive contemplated getting one of these new "hybrid" sleds. I think that they would be better over the little stutter bumps (I believe that the longer skid helps it to bridge the little gaps) but Im not willing to give up the ability to turn on a dime. Also, riding in Wisconsin there isnt a whole lot of climbing to be done, and what little there is a 121" will handle just fine. (There is this wicked steep hill between St. Germain and Sayner that is 50 feet straight down. I never thought it was all the steep untill I was deer hunting in that area and tried to walk up that hill!)

Hebi...I'd say 75% railway bed/hydro line and 25% twisty bush trails. I figure if I can muscle an RX-1 through the tight twisties a 136/141 shouldn't be a huge deal.
BTV..how do you bend the rails? Is that even a feasable solution?
Ok..I was out measuring today. Is there a difference between the 141 and 144" rails? I'm alittle unsure as to what skid I actually have!!! Cripes I feel like a newbie ...

I think I have it narrowed down to a 141 because it has steel bodied shocks and as far as I can tell the only 144 came in the MViper with aluminum KYBs...I'd still like a rail measurement and any placement measurements that anyone might have.
thx
