2001 Sx700..Off idle bogging..help!!

Can't believe what happens to sleds every year.Takes me 1 whole season to figure out I have clutch issues and rebuild the clutches in the summer.Now it is going to take me all season to figure out the lean idle thing.Is this lean idle a mistake that Yamaha never addressed.Why then are so manyguys having the same thing going on.Is this one weakness in the triple motors or what?This should not be happening at all.

It's a by product of the flatslide carb. One of the motor guys did a detailed explanation in a post a year or two ago.

I have a 2000 sx 700 and my off idle bog turned out to be the pto side crank seal. Currently in the process of a rebuilding of the motor as it has 17,000 km (10,000 miles) on it. Sled ran perfectly fine last winter but this year it had the off idle bog. I cleaned the carbs multiple time and changed my reeds to no avail. I found the leak by spraying WD40 on the PTO side of the motor (careful not to get any on the clutch) and the idle speed increased. I would try this next. You may be able to do the same on the mag side.

Engine only has 5500 miles on it. But I will try this next. Havent had time to see if the pilots are stock yet but will do it soon

Well, sprayed my seals with some wd 40 and carb cleaner while engine was running, and there was no change in rpm. So i am assumming that the seals are good.

I decided to put some miles on and see if the performance would change at all. I logged about 350 hard miles on it in mostly 10 degrees or colder weather and the sled performed awesome. It never missed a beat at all.

The only thing I did notice is the the warmest point in the day, maybe 10-15 degrees weather, the sled loaded up slightly when it sat and idled for 5 minutes. So I am prolly gonna turn the screws in slightly and see how it performs.

I dont know what else to look for as to why my fuel screws are 3 turns out, but I am prolly gonna leave them since it didnt let me down. Any other suggestions let me know. Thanks for the help guys.
