Just curious if there are any tricks some guy have used to get the motors or chain cases etc. to be "cleaner looking" or even polished?
I am well aware what is required to get a tunnel & those othe misc. aluminum parts nice & shiny, but, have not had much luck with getting the chain cases to look good or the engine either. That dull aluminum or dirty look just does not do it for me.
I am working with stuff that is 10 plus years old. Any pointers-ideas out there??
Thanks for the input here!!

painting will be the easiest. you can polish that stuff but its a hell of a lot of work.

I degrease than use some steel wool to take the dull away.

I had decent luck with mag wheel cleaner for non-clear coated wheels. The kind that is very caustic.
Castrol Super Clean is what I usually use though.

Bruce at CB Performance has some pictures os a fully polished SRX, looks beautiful but is an enormous job with a lot of up-keep. I was going to polish the same parts which you are considering but decided to clean them then powder coat them silver with a clear coat. I did the chaincase and it looks great and should last a long time.

Yep, I have done the steel wool thing, start with the rough & work your way to the I think 0000 which is a fine grade. It does work but, I was hoping there was some sort of "chemical assistance" that would help remove the dull oxidation a bit easier. I will look into the Castrol Super Clean, never used that stuff.
Have used Mother's & a few other "cleaners" & the best to date is a product by Wizards called Metal Renew, it is awesome for the tunnel parts & ski's, based on my experience to date.
rx1jim: Interesting info on the powder coating. I have been thinking about that & can see doing that to the driveline components such as the chain case etc. Just wondering, can a guy do that to the engine too??
I understand that the coating process involves a fair amount of heat & oven work. Just wonder how that would work on a motor since you would have the carbs removed etc.etc. Hmmmmmmmm?? Build some special covers over the intake area???
I had grill & trim parts for my 94 Vmax4 Project sled 2 years ago powder coated & man, that is the way to go for good looks vs painting them. Just a bit pricey, but if your building a custom deal...hey what the heck...its only $$$$!!
I appreciate the ideas & feed back!!

polinshing the jugs i had no luck with ...the best i found was a small wire brush on a dremel tool ....but turns fadded looking fast ....here is a old chain case and one after .....sliver alumnium metal flake paint works the best ....i did the jugs with the same ....best bet is to spray in a small cup and use a small brush ...
