well guys you can add another guy to the list of center connecting rod bearings going on the vipers. i have a 04 viper mtn. my center connecting rod needle bearing on my crank is gone! center piston is gone! this is going to put me back! looks like im getting a piston and my crank rebuilt! thats a real pain in the ***!! there is some scracthes on my cylinder walls but i have a honer i can use to make it better. also my center head dome has some minor damage from small peices of the piston. hopefully its not too bad. i am going to use some sand paper to try and smoothen it out!

Bought a 2002 viper for the wife this fall with the center rod, piston gone and marks in the jug.Sounds the same as yours.Mine was due too improper storage. There was even rust on the flywheel and stator.I was surprised it even started. The guy I bought it from said it made it 80 miles and let go.I put a new very low mile crank in it(bought off here) used jug and piston and reringed it.I love the sled.Wish I'd bought one years ago

rx-1 mountain, i would tighten up the free play in the oil pump cable too, when you get it back together. i have mine set @ .700" i believe. my buddies is @ .625". big deal if the power valves get a little dirtier quicker. better than bearings going out. also, you could switch to amsoil intercepter and then w/the added oil from the pump, you shouldn't be any dirtier than before, due to a fully synthetic oil.

From my other post........ I followed Mopar1's advice here and set my Mnt Viper oil cable to somewhere between .6" and .7" gap now.
Remember, it was set at over 1" apart!!! Lean-o-la!!!!!!!
Hell, I'll probably use 4x as much oil now. But from everything I've read in the last year, your better safe than sorry! I do use only Amsoil Interceptor oil.
I call BS on that
I've been running my oil cable gap in vipers at 22mm for YEARS which is a lot less oil than .6 or .7 of an inch and I've never had a problem. There is no reason to use that much oil. Sorry.....when running good oil like Amsoil it's just a waste.

22mm is .86614"
My old viper use a quart every 200 miles, this one uses a quart every 125 I bet.
