My '00 SXR700 has a "burble" sometimes. I'm sure it could be leaner than the stock setup that it is. I have heard I should notch the reed cage, lower each needle 1/2 and go to 145 mains across the carbs. Additionally some say to hole out the stock muffler. Which of these is most benificial or should I do them all? Secondly, I am not sure from the pics how, what is done to notch the reed cage.

the common change is to drop to 142.5 mains....not the 145 mains that you said. just wanted to clarify for you, that's all. also, the reed stopper notch is easy to do. you can take a dremel or bench top grinder w/thinner wheel and notch it out. just follow the instructions in the tech pages, on the dimensions of the notch. only do the top reed stopper....no need to do the bottom one. the notch starts off at 24mm (.945") wide at the top and tapers to 19mm (.748") wide at the bottom of notch. the notch is centered within the reed stopper and is 4mm (.157") deep. just look at the pics, while you read this and it should "click" as to what is needed to be done. hope this helps.

mopar1rules is right on the main jets. I did all these mods when I first bought my MM. I also removed 2 layers from my headgasket. These small, easy and cheap mods really do make a differance. Check out the TY tech section and use the search on this site, there is a ton of info here. Soc

Don't leave any sharp corners, they'll turn into stress risers and you'll end up with a cracked stopper. Can't remember if that is mentioned on the tech page.
