well, I finally got the carbs off, thanks to this site..really was not too bad to do..Just like everyone said...but, but.....but....I wasnt able to get the four screws off holding the bowl in..and didnt have any tools to tap them out, or vicegrips w/ me....I did take the mail nut off the bottom of the bowl, and looked in w/flashlight, and from what I saw, everything looked sparkling clean...didnt see any green varnish, everything from what I saw looked good. I did put the carbs back on, then noticed in the air box, that it was dirty as heck, how that stuff didnt end up in carbs, is beyond me, but I did clean out the airbox best I could..I also sprayed what I could in the carbs w/carb cleaner....put everything back in, and dropped a screw from the airbox down into the cowl somewhere...where? your guess.lol......but anyways..sled started right up and is running fine....
I wish I could have got into the carbs better, but I feel ok, with what I saw inside the bowl, that It looked clean....thanks to this site...atleast next time, I know how to get the carbs off, and should only take 15 min to get off. Hopefully my motor last this winter, and the jets were not plugged at all...but Its a chance I have to take now, as I couldnt get the bowls off, but what I saw looked really clean....thanks again..Pete

At least you know there wasn't any crap sitting in the bowls for some piece of mind.
Also now you know that you have to fix the screws in the bottom of the bowl next year and you can do it while its nice and warm out.
Have fun riding, we still only have a couple inches of snow (in lower mi) not enough to ride after we got the rain storm last week.

Make sure to get and use quality screwdrivers to remove the bowl screws from your carbs. I have a hellova time cracking the small phillips screws loose with a craftsman screwdriver, and for some reason when I use my snap-on screw drivers it goes faster and seems easier(no fighting with the tools). Just my $.02. See it wasn't brane surgery after all,but next time you need to go way deeper.
To get those four little screws off (like Sxr700Bandit said) I use a quality screwdriver and tap it with a hammer when you have it fully seated in the screw. If that does not work use a sharp chisel and tap it on the side of the screw turning it in the counterclockwise direction.

if you replace all those screws with allen head screws you will never have that trouble again. assuming that you do not over tighten them. oh yeah, a lil never seize helps too.

I removed my stripped screws by taking a hack saw blade and cutting a slot in them, then using a straight blade screw driver to get them loose.Replace with new screws and a dab of never sneeze and your good to go! Al
IF you can find stainless socket head cap screws that would be even better...swmichsx said:if you replace all those screws with allen head screws you will never have that trouble again. assuming that you do not over tighten them. oh yeah, a lil never seize helps too.
If you need a hand finding the S.S. Socket head cap screws pm me and I'll try to help you out the best that I can, if not hunting them down locally and sending them to you for cost.

Exactly what I did.swmichsx said:if you replace all those screws with allen head screws you will never have that trouble again. assuming that you do not over tighten them. oh yeah, a lil never seize helps too.

I replaced all my phillips with SS SHCS (float bowls, reed cages, needle covers, and the boot straps w/ SS Phillips!). Found them at local hardware, not hard to find at all. A bit $$, but it's a one-time expense to save a TON of aggravation later. Carry T handle allens in w/s bag ( I think 2.5 and 3mm).Sxr700Bandit said:IF you can find stainless socket head cap screws that would be even better... If you need a hand finding the S.S. For the screws use and impact driver or a battery drill with the clutch on a low setting, they will back right out. It just doesn't get any easier.
